Cutting when powdercoated

Hey guys,

Iv got a case coming tomorrow which might need some work doing on it.

The only thing is, its being powder coated and i might need to cut a couple of holes for the fans etc.

What should i do? The only thing I have it my trusty dremel and my diamond cutting tool (which i love).

Cheers guys.

cut then coat

Agreed. Cutting after any kind of painting is just asking for trouble.

If you really must cut after painting, then use plenty of masking tape.

I know, BUT!, the case is coming pre-coated so im a it screwed on the "Cut then coat" bit.

Onlt thing i could think of was to cut it under water on a really low speed. I was thinking that the dremel wont mess up if i hold a towel near it or make a sort of water guard and also the coating wont mess up if i use some sort of heavy duty cover. eg.....10 layers of masking tape or even duct tape on top of masking tape.

Shouldve said in op. Who is powdercoating it? pay them to cut the holes first.

If not then your best bet is proper masking, circular cutter and cutting lubricant. Hole cutter or oscillating saw will chip the coat something awful.
