Crytek - The plot thickens

Could have picked a more stable country, My next door neighbor is from Turkey and she and her wife said they'd rather take a chance with a rabid feral dog than go back to Turkey.

In related Crytek news. Cloud Imperium Games have switched over to Lumberyard for SC.

Yep. More info in that link. Seems to be a better partner anyway. AWS in itself is good enough reason to switch partners. Very very powerful cloud network that will benefit the multiplayer aspect

I wonder if it was a coincidence that they both branched from the same CryEngine build, if it was I bet they were very thankful of that haha. Only 2 days to integrate the new version is very impressive.

I'm more curious as to why they stopped accepting new builds from Crytek a year ago when they have so long to go? I wonder if they were planning this because of insider information about how bad it was getting at there studios? Unless it's normal in game development to do that

I imagine it got to the point that they have rebuilt too much of the engine to simply move to new builds of the engine with ease.

The main reason for their move to Lumberyard is the engine's built-in online functionality, being made to be used with Amazon's online services, which makes it idea for an MMO-style game.

Cryengine isn't really built for online play, whereas Lumberyard is designed to function well with Amazon's global servers and deliver twitch integration and other online features with relative ease.

I imagine Amazon wanted a big title for Lumberyard and RSI wanted help with their online features, making a partnership look great for both parties.

Yeah thats what I figured thinking about it some more. AWS and Twitch integration are going to be huge for SC. It should really benefit the multiplayer/popularity aspect and prevent problems other companies have where a big update comes along and everyone is trying to download it and it just brings down the servers or people playing have very very high ping. This just seems to be a perfect partnership.

When you're using a heavily modified version of an engine that is constantly being updated there is a real cost involved with maintaining compatibility and integrating new revisions. They must have thought that the updates weren't worth the cost any more.
