Cpu frequency problems with DFi Infinity...

Hi, i have a DFi Infinity with a late 2005 bios (10/19/2005) and whenever i change the CPU frequency...after the bios has booted but before windows...it goes to Nvidia ide raid...detecting array, which is very annoying as this has never happened before and would like to overclock my cpu again...as i put it down while i was formatting and installing new hardware etc...

Does anyone have any ideas on this without flashing a new bios...Ive reset cmos countless times and raid is disabled.

Have fun with that board, I had the nF4-SLi Infinity. Worst bios ever. That and feel your chipset heatsink sometime. Make sure you have cold water by for your fingers, afterwards.

tis ok, No i dont have any raid installed or enabled. And it is ionicles old OCZ Platinum but im not sure on timings etc

It's pretty likely to be broken if it's Ionicles...but..

Timings for the Platinum Rev 2 is: 2-2-2-5

Max voltage is 2.8v, preferably 2.7v

Try changing it to 2-2-2-5 and then enable memtest to test it (bottom on the CPU page in the BIOS).

Disable RAID in the (I think) onboard chipset config, but enable SATA.

LMAO!!!!! So off topic but that's going in my sig.

Also, doomie, Ionicle had fried that ram long before and ran it at some weird timings, ask him to set it.

Not sure about pci-e lock, and i have no idea about setting timings so i will research that later ;) . Raid is diabled and sata is enabled but the odd thing is this nvidia raid screen only comes up after POST when my cpu frequency is not default.

Last I remembered, Ionicle screwed that RAM up something strange by pulling them out WHILE the computer was running. He had something to get it to work though

Right...back on topic...anyone know any solutions? And recently i have been getting BSOD alot with the error Machine_Check_Exception . Anyone know anything about that? Ive heard that its with the cpu, i am running xp pro and have an amd x2 3800+

Have you tried installing the X2 fix I posted a while back? HERE

Did you try Memtest86+ I think you should set the timings manually at 200MHz (1:1) and set voltages to

Firstly: 2.7v

then if this does not work:

2.8v

You may need to try some additional cooling on the memory - an 80mm fan or suchlike :)

Despite all these horror stories the ram seems to be running fine. I will try the hotfix suggested later, as for now ive given up because of one to many crashes. Im wondering if the machine_check_exception is related to the cpu frequency problem ive been having? I would of emailed dfi but there contact for required pretty much every detail on my pc.

Right...I have updated the bios to the latest release, and i have installed the hotfix etc, but neither has solved my cpu frequency problems...Still, everytime i i change the cpu frequency in bios, after POST nvidia ide raid "detecting array" appears which doesnt do anything...despite all rad options being disabled. However, i havent had enough time to see if my machine_check_exception problem has gone. Noting that the cpu frequency problem is still there, im wondering if a faulty cpu is triggering this.
