Connecting switch to another switch

Hi,

Currently I have a 5-port Gigabit switch (TP-Link TL-SG1005D). But recently I found that the 5 ports are not sufficient for me.

I am unsure whether to buy a new 8-port switch to replace the original one, or buy another 5-ports switch and connecting it to the first switch.

In term of network bandwidth/performance, is there any difference between the two?

I guess that connecting two switches will be slower because all ports in the second switch are connecting to the first switch using a single 1000 Mbps port only, thus there will be bottleneck.

Need your advice. Thanks.
 
its always better to go with single switch solution unless you run something like a home full fledged server station, the difference in performance wouldn't vary too much but jitter could increase which would result in small delay. brisging two switches wouldnt be someting abnormal nowdays even for home solutions but its always simpler and easier to keep everything within one collision domain
 
Two switches will be fine. In my girlfriend's family home, they have one switch in the attic, two downstairs with the two downstairs linked directly to the attic switch.

You do know that every port on a switch creates a new collision domain and that every MAC and IP is stored in the switch.

So connecting 2 switches together will make no real difference.

How ever if you connected a switch to a Hub, the hub has it's own single collision domain and will create more trouble then it's worth.
