Ive been wanting to do some folding for a few years now but recently Ive had some things come up and I really want to get into it. Im seeking for some help on some cheap parts. Im talking about cheap as possible. If anyone has some builds available please post. Never did folding so I dont know where to start.

I've read the ps3 can fold so would that be cheaper and a smarter way to go?

In terms of power/folding, I think the PS3 is not worth while, Im not sure exactly how efficient it is at folding but a dedicated folding PC would give you a lot more bang for your buck.

Oh, and my folding rig which has 2 Intel Xeon E5430's, I picked mine up for about £290 not too bad as it gives me about 20k PPD.

As mini me has mentioned, ps3 is not worth fold since the amount of points it gives is low for the amount of electricity used. I stopped folding on mine.

A cheap folding rig. You could go for a q6600, with a decent 2 slit pci-e socket 775 motherboard, few Gb of ddr2 or ddr3 depending on mobo. 9800gtx+, 8800gts g92 version, gtx260 are few cards which fold well and can be picked for cheap. Then its cpu cooler, case, hdd for OS, power supply.

Or

You could go with something like mini me's HP server, very good folder for the price. I'll provide a link to my folding shortly
