Hi everyone!

Thought it'd be fun if you could follow my very first attempts at sleeving...
I started yesterday but with no acces to the forum I couldn't post ^^ so here you have it: project cable sleeving has begun!
It'll be mostly about the sleeving and cable management. Other things I want to get done is change the noctua fans to white ones from enermax, throw out dvd drive, hide HDD in a nice housing and put it on the bottom and install some white nzxt leds. Don't know if 1m would suffice or maybe go 2m of these leds?

Anyway, this is the sleeving material: top quality from MDPC-X !

Theme is going to be black and white, as you can see...
Behold, a personalised pin remover: Gurt11 edition! Big thank you to Nils @ MDPC-X!

My very first sleeved computerpart: Enermax UCTB12 fan, and proud of it!

I ran into a couple of problems too.
1) The opening of the cable routing hole in the side of the fan is just to small to squeezzz a sleeved cable through. The easy way would be to get the dremel out, but since I don't have one, sandpaper does the job too! It just takes a little longer.

Second problem were black cables shining through the white sleeve. I saw that coming ofcourse but still I tried. Didn't like it, so white electrical tape around the black cables solved that ^^

At the end of the day, this is the result: all the fans sleeved!

Laters!

(why can I only post 4 pics incl. smileys in one post? :( )

Looking good. I always love a bit of well executed sleeving.

Doesn't the white electrical tape make the cables rather stiff?

No not really, rather surprising ^^ I did wrap the electrical tape round in 3 or 4 parts, maybe that leaves it more bendableness. But no, it's quite thin and so thight on the cable you don't notice ^^

Thanks for the nice comments!

Bed = bomsite

But the Corsair 600T remains such a nice case to work with! I'm not getting rid of this baby until it falls apart :p

Top panel cables are next, also did my SATA data cables, pics this evening normally.
Not sure if I'm going to cut some cables off of the front... Maybe try hiding them is a better option?
The black isolation that's on those cables currently is gonna have to go, just a little too stiff for my liking.

Grrr everytime I went onto MDPC the shop was always closed, as he doesnt like to have to many orders at once. I have given up with them now. and get it elsewhere. rather annoying.

Just go to his site when it's open then? The hour is mentioned so... Make an account when you're at it so you can save your shopping cart ^^ write down the lengths and prizes of the materials you want to use, calculate everything and then order. If you want the best quality sleeve and heatshrink, there's only one place to go really...

Question:

In the picture you see the HD Audio (left) and AC 97 (right) connectors coming from the front panel. My motherboard just uses the HD Audio one.
Can I just cut the left to right part, which is the AC 97 part off? Some cables from AC 97 and HD Audio do go into the same pin-holes... So not sure? Please help ^^

Okay then,

Some pictures from the cables coming from the frontpanel:
Only the firewire cable to go, the usb3.0 I'm going to try to hide somewhere...

And some SATA data cables:

And I wanted to tell you this: don't shrink your heatshrink with a lighter or a candle. It's as good as impossible to do it without burning the heatshrink and thus make it go brown, especially the white heatshrink. Instead use something that blows hot air. A heat gun would be perfect, but your sisters/mothers hairdryer does the job too ;)

See you tomorrow! Then the first parts will be going back into the case, I'm curious ^^

Yea the AC97 is just the same pins in a different layout cutting it off will be fine as long as nothing is shorted.

Are you going to be sleeving individual wires from your PSU? Or just as whole groups?

Looking good so far mate. :D

I cut the AC 97 part off yes, thanks for the advice everyone ^^

24pin, 8pin, 6/8pin pci-e, molexes etc are going to be sleeved individually! Because this is my first time sleeving, I started with the 'easier' sata sleeving and single cables :p although sata's were quite the pita.

Going to have to take the soldering iron out for some split cables though :/ make them join somewhere behind the motherboardtray...

Thanks for nice comments! ^^

Quick update:

To sleeve the cables from the front panel with white SATA sleeve, I first removed the black isolation from the cables, which gave me something that looked like this:

dsc04205h.jpg

Next thing I did then was putting white electrical tape round the cables, like this:

dsc04207y.jpg

Front panel is now finished!

dsc04216yq.jpg

Time to put the case back together and check the length and looks of the cables ^^ psu-cables are next!

Ran into a little problem (again). I was about to plug some of the fans into my fancontroller (Scythe Kaze Master 5.25) but they had 4pin connectors which don't fit directly onto the fancontroller... Fortunatly some 3pin->3/4pin adapters came with the fancontroller so those will be used. Only problem with those is they're too long. This means cutting and re-crimping! MDPC-X crimping tool, here I come ;)

dsc04217q.jpg

This is how the case looks currently:

dsc04218df.jpg

(don't panic, the molex cable you see there will also be sleeved :p)

Ok, so, the making of a shorter adapter piece:

First remove some isolation, not too much, not too little, takes some practice ^^ that little pin is going to be 'crimped' on the cable.

dsc04220l.jpg

Stick pin inside crimp tool, 2 clicks should hold it in place (dinosaurs go rawr :p)

dsc04222do.jpg

Put cable in the opening, not to far! And close the tool all the way until it opens again:

dsc04223cz.jpg

(can only post 4 images in 1 post so next part up in a few secs)

(continued...)

Which eventualy gives us three crimped wires:

dsc04229s.jpg

Some electrical tape, some sleeve, heatshrink with the hairdryer and boom:

dsc04230og.jpg

One more please ^^

8pin cpu proces:

dsc04232y.jpg

MDPC tool in and then you pull really really really hard to get the cables out. Surprised me how much force was needed for these ax850 cables. Also never forget to mark the cables and connectors or make a drawing ;p

dsc04238q.jpg

One cable done:

dsc04239z.jpg

Entire cable done! I sleeved almost all of the cables again after the first time. They came from underneath the heatshrink far too easy. It's essential to let them cool down, just put them somewhere before heating up a little again and putting them into the connectors.
