Case window locks are useless!

I have got to say, locks for cases windows are the worst invention ever, except for the coolness they give..

Imagine if you will, being a thief... You find a costly looking PC, and decide, that it is a good way to get yourself some cash. Remember, you are a thief, and may not know anything about which components are useful or valuable, or indeed how to remove them from the case.

You see a lock on the cases side. the window it is on is made of plastic....

If you were an idiot, you would think, Darn! there's a lock, i can't get in! Ah well...

If you were even mildly intelligent, you would simply TAKE THE WHOLE PC!

If you were very intelligent, and knew about the components and how to remove them, and didnt want the case, you are a thief. You will probably have a tool for breaking into things. A kinfe would easily get you in after a minute or twos dogged hammering. If it was a metal panel, then a crowbar would make the lightest work of its removal...

Who agrees with me?

And if anyone disagrees, please explain why :D

The only type of lock on a PC that is useful is the one that locks it to your desk or to a bolt on the wall....

Most burglars want a quick in and out. If they have to start faffing around with things locked to desks or walls, they aint gonna bother.

Case locks are really made for LAN parties so people aren't tempted to take your components, but yes they're a bit pointless

Lol, tbf, if you didnt notice a part was gone, its your own fault :P... hmm i swear there was a PSU there before! But yes, a chain, linked through the rear of the pc, and then a wall bracket put into brick, would be a good detterent. If it was in plaster they'd probably rip it out.

could mount everything inside the case with rubber fixing and run a couple thousand volts through the chassis :p

Most of the case locks are cack anyway, picked both of my housemates thermaltake ones in a matter of seconds.

Saying that, a case lock would stop the family using my PC when i'm at uni.

im guessing they are locks kind of like cheapo padlocks, with say, 2 levers, that you can jimmy open with a paper-clip even if you have had no lockpicking experience beforehand.

Well, they're not lever locks, and a paper clip on its own doesn't really do the job, you need to apply tension too, but, a paper clip and a small screwdriver might work.

lol, i can open 3 out of 5 or so of the lock and key padlocks at school using only a paperclip, then shimmying it about for a minute or so.
