[Case Mod] Project The White Pirate

Nice build man! Painting the front mesh is probably the easiest still most good-looking mod that can be done to a case. :)

I don't know, this looks much better for me. Just a personal taste :)

To me (again, personal taste), it could be either centered or in the corner, but I'd make the 5.25" logo a tad smaller.

If you leave the Corsair logo on the front in place (i.e. bottom center) then I'd also center the pirate logo and make it of similar width. If you take out the Corsair logo, see my first paragraph.

Regardless, love the plexi-LED logo idea!

I can't make 5.25 logo any smaller, even in this size it will be pretty hard to make it. I will cut it with laser, so there won't remain much plastic between holes.
I'll leave it this way for now. It's not a problem to make a new piece if this is not good :beerchug:

Hi my dear companions :beerchug:
It's been awhile since my last update... I was too busy with my stupid job, wife, kid and everything else. Hope you won't mind :)
But finally i found some time for my project and now i'm back on business :ar:

So, let us begin...

Backplate is done and mounted for now. I'm still waiting for cool white LED strips and wire i have ordered to arrive. They should be here in a few days.
I'm gonna throw strips between backplate and pcb. I think that should look much better then it is right now. Considering that letter cuts for themselves are really narrow, light that will break from inside out should allow signature ''The White Pirate'' to be seen much better and clearer.
Otherwise, backplate is mounted in the simplest way, double-sided sticky tape.

''Box'' for 240 mm rad is also solved. It also serves to completely hide the 5.25 cage. I still need to paint it. I'm thinking for some kind of black and white combination. I would not go on any further with details, I want a kind of clean look inside.

Alucobond cut to size, template taped ...

That's all for today folks. Tomorrow i continue with my job so you can expect new update in a 2-3 days.
Hope you like it so far. Cheers :beerchug:

Everything's turning out wonderfully so far! I was wondering when life was gonna allow you to make some progress on this... I have not been left wanting :beerchug:

That backplate looks bauce!

Also love the box, such a pretty bend

Very nice :)

Sexy GPU is sexy.

Good progress on this !

Looks Great so far mate!
I especially love that backplate!

Thanks a lot guys for every great comment and support. That really means something to me:beerchug:

Let's start with update for today, shall we...

Time to do something with this ''floor'', also made of Alucobond
All measured, marked and ready for cutting
camerazoom-2013041716404.jpg

Jigsaw in action again, i bought it almost 3 years ago for silly 10 pounds and it's still alive

camerazoom-2013041717042.jpg

Alucobond is a ''sandwich'' panel consisting of two aluminum plates and mineral fillers, or let's say some kind of plastic. Normally used in construction for making external facades. The material itself, due to the method of production, is simply great for any kind of processing. Only minus for this material is a very high price, but luckily i have friend who works with this so he can send me some free pieces.
camerazoom-2013041717161.jpg

Here's how it looks inside the case, i'll paint it white
camerazoom-2013041717225.jpg

I'll use double-sided sticky tape (again :)) for mounting in the bottom of the case
camerazoom-2013041717225.jpg

I left a small gap on every edge so i can mount white leds on the bottom side of this ''floor''. Thus the light will come out from those small gaps

camerazoom-2013041717251.jpg

camerazoom-2013041717252.jpg

camerazoom-2013041717241.jpg

And now it's time for painting ''box'' with matte black acrylic paint
First some brushing with sandpaper and some water, this is the best and fastest method for aluminum panels.
camerazoom-2013041718011.jpg

camerazoom-2013041718040.jpg

What a mess :)

camerazoom-2013041718150.jpg

All cleaned and ready for painting
camerazoom-2013041718282.jpg

And finally

I still need to paint this other side without holes in white, but i ran out of paint so that will wait till tomorrow.

Looks really nice - keep on truckin`

Thanks mate :beerchug:

That box turned out really nice. Clever touch leaving the gaps int he floor for LED effect, very Tron-esque (a good thing).

I surely hope so that will turn out the way i want it to be :)

Nice work - looking very clean.

Thanks, that's what i'm going for, to get the cleanest possible look inside the case

Now I'm waiting Monday for Corsair SP120 fans to come so i can continue with my plans and work. There will be some changes (cuts) on front and top bezel.

really admire your job !!
can't wait to see the finished build !!
keet it up !! :)

Thank you Giannakos :beerchug:

Let us start with another update :)

Time has come to do something with this top mesh/cover. Job is not done yet cos i'm waiting for those Corsair SP120 fans to come so I can make some more modding with this mesh. Honestly, i'm not 100% sure how i'm gonna perform what i have in mind for those fans. But, as soon as they come i'll let you know everything there is to know. So, stay tuned :)

This is what i have done so far...
Mesh/cover i'm talkin' about
camerazoom-2013042217222.jpg

camerazoom-2013042217230.jpg

...taken apart.
camerazoom-2013042217253.jpg

Way too much plastic, so something should have been done about it...
camerazoom-2013042217255.jpg

...and this is what i came up with...
camerazoom-2013042218004.jpg

... much better.
camerazoom-2013042218013.jpg

Time for some painting
camerazoom-2013042218085.jpg

Assembled back together
camerazoom-2013042219404.jpg

camerazoom-2013042219414.jpg

camerazoom-2013042219432.jpg

camerazoom-2013042219431.jpg

Now few pics with case
camerazoom-2013042219450.jpg

camerazoom-2013042219452.jpg

camerazoom-2013042219461.jpg

camerazoom-2013042219463.jpg

As we are finished with that part of job (for now) let us jump to a front mask of the case. 5.25 bay covers are completely removed and replaced with piece of plexiglass on which has been etched the inscription and the Corsair logo. Later, i'm gonna add couple of white leds behind the inscription and that's it.

First, front mask as it used to be

Replacement for 5.25 covers made of black plexiglass. Sorry for reflections ^_^
