Can't get soundcard to work

I can't get my sound card to work. I'm using a Asus p8p67 Pro(rev3) with a x-fi xtreme Audio.

I have disabled the onboard sound card and Windows 7 is still not detecting it.

Any ideas? I have tested the card on another PC and it works fine.

Have you tried it in a different PCI slot? You could have a bunk slot or it could have an IRQ conflict (is that even still possible this day in age?

I got the PC to detect the card after updating the drivers for it.

It's still not working, I get sound but its so unclear and very quite. Turning down the speakers makes it louder......

Any ideas?

Going to try a new install of Windows 7 on a partition.

Were you using the same speakers when you tested it in the other computer or different speakers? Just trying to rule out that it's not a problem with your speakers.

Different speakers but I plugged both my speakers and headset in to my ipod and they worked fine.

That's just really odd man.

Have you tried it in a different PCI slot just to try?

Trying now that, got to reinstall drivers again.

Installed Windows 7 and on a fresh install it did the same. Using a different PCI slot now. Fingers crossed!

Creative Software Autoupdate was unable to decent any Creative products attached to your computer.

Thats in the new PCI slot

Sure sounds like the card is crapping out even though it works in the other computer.... Or there's just some kind of incompatibility between the card and motherboard.

Mate down the road has got the same mobo and sound card and his works. Going to take the mobo out and try it not being in the case. In case something is shorting it out. If that doesnt work then I'll try the card in my mates PC.

And if that doesn't work then I have no clue.

Just tried without the mobo in the case and its doing the same. Guess that means It's something to do with the motherboard.

Tried it today on the old PC and it does the same so I think it's time for a upgrade.

Any good sound cards for gaming? Not wanting to spend alot.
