Can you fold on a home server?

Simple question really, can you fold on a home server and is it really worth it?

depends on the hardware, you could stick in a gpu and fold just on that leaving cpu resources for the server to do its serving...

well it would be a C60M1-I Motherboard and CPU bundle, its a dual core AMD chip and could you suggest any low power GPU's to run (cheap too)?

Something like a GTX 550 Ti, I think you can even find passive cards in that range too..

would something like a 5450/6450 be a viable option?

For folding I was under the assumption nvidia gives best ppd per watt, your best waiting for one of the pro folders here to chirp in....

As FTLN said, AMD cards are not good at folding whatsoever. Something like a second hand GTX 460 would yield decent PPD for you.

Low power consumption, but low efficiency when it comes to FaH. A GTX 260 is another efficient choice, and fairly cheap on the second hand market.

I wouldnt get a 260 mate, there noisy as hell / hot and well I think youd be better with a card that supports at least cuda 1.3

Around 15k ppd, according to some other forums.

Just make sure you set up your folding client correctly.

Lots of info on here on how to set it up, if you get any probs just ask..

I'm only folding with my server. Especially multiple socket servers are just wonderful for F@H purposes!

Are there any cheap, low power multi socket server boards? Preferably under about £100 with the CPU's and under about 200w power consumption?
