Buying my first SSD

I've never bought one before. Got a 2500k on a Asus P8P67 Pro board, is there anything compatibility wise that I should be wary of? Looking to get one around the 60gb mark, looking at the crucial m4 or the ocz agility 3 at the moment. Which one would y'all recommend? Thanks.

Richard.

I've been told that the Corsair Force GTs are good. It's available in a 60GB model. It's got an extremely high read and write speeds. It's SATA III after all.

Will 60gb be enough do you think? I now give myself a 100gb partition just for my OS, it used to be smaller but documents, game saves and all sorts of other stuff seem to fill it quite quickly. Note: I do run cleaners so it's not all obsolete junk!

For me I'd need to consider at least a 120gb drive for OS + a handful of games, ideally double that.

I wish that TRIM was still supported in a RAID 0 setup - wonder if it ever will be - as that'd make things easier.

Oh, I had debated getting one of the 60gb SSDs while retaining my current 1tb normal HDD and taking advantage of Z68's caching feature using an SSD. However this requires a fresh install of Windows to enable apparently...bit of a pain. Additionally I'm quite happy with my conventional HDD's performance, I only lust after SSDs every now and again cos they're new stuff

I would try the kingston, it looks sexy and it is freakin smokin fast. I bought an older OCZ agility 2. Got a great deal on it, getting advertised speed, couldn't be happier. Most of the time they will come with up to date firmware, but if you need to update, its a snap. The chronos is looking good too, but my money would be on the kingston.

Tom hooked me up with a Kingston 120gb v+ 100. Its my first and only ssd. So far it has been great, no complaints. As for size, I would go with the largest you can afford. But for sure at least have enough to run your OS on it. I like to run my games off of mine rather than off the HDD in the PC. I only have 1 or 2 games on it at a time so I do not clutter it.

I think I can safely say that ANY ssd is a HUGE upgrade compared to no SSD. Lol, Game Over mentioned the V100+ great choice. Also if you are comfortable with bios flashing the V100 come for dirt cheap, because they had a large issue with firmware issues, that have long since been fixed. But you can still get them cheap none the less. 9 times out of ten they come with the newest firmware revision. Just depends if it has been shelved for awhile or its a fresh order. I downloaded a bios flash utility that uses a linux distro on a usb flash drive to flash the firmware. Piece of cake.

any sata 2 & 3 SSD will work fine...

M4 is a great choice, but I'd look at mushkin chronos (dx) instead of ocz

I'm looking into my first SSD as well, and at the moment it's looking to be either the Mushkin Cronos Deluxe or the Kingston Hyper-X, in 120GB flavour. Difference in price is literally about £3.
