When I used to run pegs I found that I didn't need a tensioner, I guess they worked better for that then nuts. If I was only running on one side I'd just have one on the other side
The reason I want the tensioners is because I went with 2.125 tyres. This means that the gap between the frame and tyre will be tiny, so any movement at all when tightening up the wheel nuts could result in tyre rub.
So yeah, with tensioners I can basically set the rim position in the frame and then do up the nuts knowing the wheel won't move
I have ordered a set of "lollipop" tensioners and will just use one on the other side.For the front peg I will just crack out the Dremel and mod it until it fits into the slot for the fork at the front
I'm not into grinding. I attempted it once and ended up falling arse over tit and landing on my right kidney. Not something I wish to do again
I do like my old skool flatland tricks though and the basis of free style, meaning do whatever you wish so long as it's fun.

The journey continues...
So today it was finally time for powder after two delays. I wanted to go last Friday but they close at 12 and that's a bit too early because it's out of the way and we go to my mother's on Fridays usually and she would not have been there. I then wanted to go yesterday but something came up so I finally got it out today. First I labelled up the parts.
And then put it in the Mini
And finally it is at the powder coating place was a PITA to find because there is a railway in the way so you have to go miles around and then back on yourself.
Whilst I was at mum's I kinda got to thinking about a couple of my part choices. There was one thing I was not happy about, the sprocket (or chain ring). It looks nice but it's solid steel, weighs a ton and no doubt would rust. So I started digging on Fleabay and found this.
And up close.
When I originally started out I was going to do it all on the cheap but man, you know how it goes I did get it for a really good price though. It was up on Ebay brand new for £35, I offered £25 which was accepted. Crupi USA are selling them for $19 on their site atm down from $50, but apparently the shipping is $11 within the USA so god knows what they would want, if they even ship to the UK at all. Super happy with it though, nice bit of class
So now the anxious wait begins.. Will it be done on time? will it look right? will they mess up? ugh lol.

Serious lack of updates. It's not because I have lost enthusiasm, I am just waiting on the powder coater. Was supposed to pick the frame etc up today but of course it wasn't ready. So he is saying it will be done tomorrow so I will be sure to call him then.
Any way I managed to sell off a couple of parts I am not using so I bought another set of pegs. I also sorted out the axles today and the wheels are ready to be fitted..
I bought this yoke the other day.
A yoke is basically a centre pull for a U/V/canti brake. Should look better than the horrid steel thing they give you with the brake (you only need this on the rear, front end uses a noodle). I also got this the other day.
Which comes with the correct sized shim for my frame and bearing covers etc. Better quality bearings too.

As you can probably now see I decided to do the F, F and bars all yellow. So let's take a look at the finish. (apologies for the potato pics, very dark, flash added later to show the correct colours).
Flawless. The willy powdered the steerer tube though so I will have to scrape it off some.

Looks proper tasty. I went out on a 19 mile ride yesterday, this thread has helped to inspire me again. The last 6-7 mile got chatting to an old boy on my way home, he was as fit as a fiddle - he was 80, couldn't believe it, I'm sure if he'd wanted to, he could of found another gear and left me for dead...

I didn't sleep very well last night so now I am rocking a serious headache. Not sure I will do any building today.
Plus I have an allergy to something (I think it's high PG eliquid) so I have this itchy rash all over. Doc has given me horse pill sized antihistamines which make me sleep most of the day. Regular sized one is 25mg and makes you drowsy, these are 180mg lol.
I rushed to get the frame and forks built. Rushed around like a headless chicken trying to locate the decals etc. Now? I think I'm going to just take my sweet time. Just looking at it makes me grin from ear to ear. I have all the parts, so will just do it part by part. Maybe later if I can get a nap (only got about five hours last night, I need at least 8) I will press in the headset cups.

I'm the same, whenever I build something, its only every now and then, so I want to savour every bit of it and make sure its just the way I want it. That way each part you can remember and be happy with. As long as you're moving forward that's the main thing. If at the end of the day you can say, "I'm further ahead than I was yesterday", then I consider that a successful day.

So today I decided to fit the headset. That's where the "fun" began. It's been twenty years since I set up a gyro system and I will admit I am kinda rusty. I knew something wasn't quite right but I could not quite put my finger on it. It turns out the gyro does not clear the top bearing cup on the headset. You can see here that the gyro should pretty much just be floating free but it was trapped.
So in order to try and make it drop I ground it clean, straightened up the hooks but it still refused to clear. After about six hours of fighting it I realised that it wasn't going to fit no matter what I tried.
Most of this is because modern riders don't use any brakes at all. But that would go against everything I learned and how I rode. So after some Googling it seems that the only external headset you can get now (because ultra modern BMXes have internal headsets) is the FSA pig.
So I spent a whole day getting pretty much nowhere. I now have to remove the headset and start again. My hands are killing me (not used to working with spanners, it's been a while) and my back aches lol.
Thankfully I have an amazing wife, and she bought me the headset. So hopefully soon I can start from scratch with a headset that actually works.

Update. Over the weekend I fitted the crank and sprocket.
I also fitted the seat clamp and the seat to the post, ready to go in. Today I quickly fitted the tyres and tubes and aired them up to 30 PSI to check they were OK. They're fine, apart from the fact they have "tyredruff". They are dropping white powder everywhere so will need a bath before I ride on them to remove it.
They'll need letting down again but go to 50 PSI.

haha I will just keep it clean
I'm usually good with cleaning my bikes, keeping them oiled etc.Yeah every one rides brakeless these days. Flatland seems to be a dying art too.
I hear good things about the Pig. Sodding modern bikes though, this is the third headset I've bought now !!
Well we all just used to use cables long enough to bar spin a few times
