Bikes 2017 and a build log for my Quadangle.

Poppy ! I've been doing it for years, started on a custom Pace cube frame hard tail, had a GT LTS3000 which soaked up the knocks like a pro then a GT Timberline same thing, they don't have to break the bank you just need the right frame size. OK some full sus bikes don't lend themselves to street like the GT STS lobo or Kona Stab (owned those too) but still they're fun. Ive come down in the world of cycling over the last few years but my latest bike the Carrera (mirrida) Titan LE loves hard hits an just keeps going for a £600 full sus its awesome.

I wasn't what you would call a "smooth" rider. I had all the finesse of a house brick.

It was always the rear derailleur that would go. Riding down fire escapes and dropping gaps etc. I also never quite got the hang of tuning them, so they would fall out of tuning and then endo - back hop = caught in the spokes snap when you ride away.

There are probably mountain bikes out there that can take that sort of punishment, but not for a few hundred quid. I did think about a single speed Kona trick bike once (was 24" IIRC) but it sold before I pulled the trigger.

I found on account of size a 20" wheel could take a pretty decent beating. Especially the deep lip ones. Plus that was just what I rode dude. Never could get my head around huge great big wheels, always felt a bit cumbersome. Plus there is far less to go wrong on a BMX.

My Inspire MTB has no rear derailleur as such, its single speed. What you can see is more chain slack support. My SJ doesnt have a front one anymore. Amazing.. I spend more money for less gears ;)

as you said though. These bikes.... don't come cheap. I picked mine up 2 years ago when in the UK and the pound was weak and even then £700. I do find it worth every penny though. Currently in a storage unit under lock and key for the winter, perhaps i should check up on the container and make sure I still have my bikes

I suppose I should call it a trial bike even though classed as MTB. I strongly suggest you try one out if you come across one. Immense fun.

This was my last serious gap bike.

Standard STA 500 with Standard Strip (4pc) bars standard seat post and solid steel 48s. I used to go through wheels like a fat kid through candy :D

It was seriously heavy but seriously strong. Sadly that's the only photo of any of my 90s bikes that I have :(

Not cheap but when you are putting your life on the line better to be safe.

I was never comfortable on a BMX. It felt too light and unsafe to me. Or well one way to put it was that I had the soft touch of an elephant. I needed more weigh between my legs ;)

my first DH bike weighed in at around 19kilos! which is damn fun when going down a mountain. But that was back when gear was heavy

Might be time to leave the BMXs to the kids and get yourself mountain bike. ;)

Or something with an engine. I miss my bike. Well i miss that i had a bike not my specific one. I hated my sv650. If you can get around thefact that everyone else on the road is trying to kill you theres nothing better than wearing shorts on the motorway.

That standard was around 25 kilos lmao. Look at the dropouts dude, they were 8mm thick :D

I had a Standard Shorty as well, it too was made like a nuclear bunker.

Mine was identical, it just had the older decals (same sort of thing as the STA above).

Was a great bike for flatland as well as going mental :D

All that's missing are a pair of 203mm discs and it'd be a right little street killer.

MTB Master race!!!!!!!!!

mine has them. I couldnt take a picture because its in storage, so just grabbed an inspired bike from their site just as example.

I love all this talk of bikes, just a pure roadie myself, but if the weather wasn't so awful I be out there. Honest :)

My Cousin owns Shehair straighteners, she and her husband are massive roadies and are out in all weather powering up hills all clad in lycra on multi thousand pound carbon fibre monstrosities it baffles me but they are so dedicated to it it's also fascinating to see them chasing point to point times.

that's a poor excuse, I use to ride my bike no matter what the weather, not my racer that got kept in a nice warm place, i had a MTB I rode in this weather

I don't have any excuse tbh, I have a nice XC bike I bought a few years ago and kitted it out for the winter. Just need the motivation...

OK so the bike flew out of San Fran last night. It began in Mountain View, just outside of Silicon Valley :)

And it has now been tracked and scanned by Parcel Force.

I also had what may have been some luck yesterday. My wife and I go to see my mother every Friday. In mum's town there is a shop called The Trading Post, where they basically bulk sell bankrupt stock (so things like odd flavoured colas that never caught on etc). Any way in the car park (parking lot for you yanks) there is a building opposite. When I read the banner it said "Blast treatments and powder coating".

So I am going to give them a ring on Monday as they were closing when we got there on Friday. If they can do the frame forks and bars though? makes things very easy. Simply drop them off on a Friday then collect the next as it's right there where we park :)

And she's in Blighty !

That didn't take long. Now what I am waiting for is a four day or so delay in tracking, then the message "HELD" to appear. Then another week or so before it pops up with a cash amount I have to pay lol.

:D

Spent a while earlier drawing the fork decals. Decided I wanted to go old skool on this, given the bike is going to be a mutt any way :)

Few alterations to make, then I can add them to my decal sheet for printing :)

Well she's through customs.

When tracking from England it now gives me the following message.

Note they don't emphasise the *IF* part very much so it's still a crap shoot as to whether they are going to nail me.

Oh yeah in other news the stem.. Basically it was apparently delivered with a signature on Friday. Obvioiusly it wasn't, because I don't have it. So we (the seller and I) assumed some one had stolen it. Imagine my surprise when I get a note through my door this morning from the courier stating that he had tried to deliver it twice (this is the first he's told me !) and was now returning it to the sender. In other words on Friday he fancied a day in bed so signed for all of his parcels making it look like they had been delivered. Now he's been caught out he has to send them all back.

Nice guy. Sadly that's what it is like in the UK. I wish we had the same sort of jail sentences you lot have over there in the USA. Thing is with a company like Hermes they pay with peanuts so they get monkeys.

Any way, seller has refunded and I have bought the stem again. Same one, it was untouchable for the price.

It's here !

I have a Quadangle ! I actually have a Quadangle woop woop !

I have also decided on the yellow I am going to use. This is it here.

Or by its code, efe977
