ive used microsoft security essentials for a long time now and personally i wouldnt use anything else.
its free, it updates through windows update. it hardly uses any resources too
For win7 MSE for win8 KIS
Kaspersky Internet Securityagreed
whats KIS
Windows security essentials and windows defender, avoid norton/symantec like the plague.
I had malwarebytes installed but it didn't seem to do a good job.
I will try kaspersky and Avast. I'll look at Microsoft essentials too.
Really i want something that will tell me if i'm about to install something that has crap along with it. I installed a couple of apps and ended up with a bunch of shit like the delta tool bar. I manually removed it, but it was still there. I then downloaded a tool that claimed to removed it, but now my system is broken so i'm doing a fresh install.
Note: I carefully check or uncheck the boxes in the installers to avoid having this crap installed, but it still found it's way into my system.
In the past I've mainly just used Norton. Quite glad I've seen this as I have a subscription to Norton and it took out £60 at the beginning of the year on auto-renewal...I don't even have a Windows PC atm! Waste of money. Just making note now to login to Norton at some point.![]()
Norton is for n0000bs and is utter gash bloatware.
I think the point is its renowed for slowing machines down
I use ESET and that can be doing an in depth scan and Im not even aware of it.
The fact PC World give you Norton says it all![]()
Tom has a point, don't use Norton to auto-scan at a time you'll be at your PC. Everything comes to a stand still.
Norton is completely shit lol. Really is for numpties, costs too much, invades everything, uses up loads of resources and is nigh-on impossible to cleanly remove. God awful piece of software.
