Was just wandering if the team was going to have a benchmarking event some time soon. I've nearly paid off all my debts I owe now, so I will soon have money to spend on sub zero equipment and some lovely Z77 pieces for 3D benchmarking. I've got a 4870 that can do 900Mhz on air that I would like to get benched under cold one day, also it would be good to have a get together where we could all have a little play with LN2. I know their would be a bit of hassle getting it sorted at a time and place that would suit everyone, but i still think it would be great to get it done.

if you can get your bits here dude you can come play with phase anytime you want

offer stands to anybody as its only collecting dust in the shed atm :|

That's awesome mate thank you very much. I will definitely see what i can do. Summer is coming and i will have much more free time

Of course only if it suits you.

Don't know whether to buy a Phase unit or not??

LD's are awesome but £700 is a lot for just -30. Appreciate they are top quality but for half the price piotres' can do around -50. Don't look as good but need decent low temps under load. I'm sure you can get a decent Cascade for the notes LD wants for his Phase units.

If you want to do something just half-decent with ivy youll need at least -50 or lower in my experience.Think -30 isnt enough and will quickly overwhelm the unit in heavy loaded benches that uses all cores like wprime 1024.

Aye, that's why £700 is A LOT for just that.

Spoke to Peter and SS is approx 350-650 EURO depending on type, and Single evap Cascade's with rotary compressors will cost 1050-1550 EURO depending on type (approx -85 to -95C @ 315w load). Stronger Cascade making approx -100C or lower @ 315W load will cost 1800-2200 EURO.

Dont know if got lucky(or unlucky),but i had no trouble booting -74c on dice with my 3770k+geneV+tridentx combo at 6ghz @ 1.75v,but it wasnt benchstable at that temp.I think if you can get to -90c or lower it could maybe do 6.0-6.2ghz benchstable if you have a really decent chip.
That is a lot of money to spend, but -70c or lower is really needed for ivy.
Looking at what 6.5ghz requires(ln2),i dont think -50c will do any good.

Is there any reason why most if not all 3DMark top scores (minus Kingpin's 2GHz 680 runs) use a 7970? I though the 680 was king when OC'd?

Have no clue myself why the gtx680 is so week in benchmarks.I`m too puzzled why it clock by clock is beaten by the hd7970.Nearly all benchmark reviews has the gtx680 as a clear winner when oc`ed.
Had a quick ,going through benchmarks, and i can see it only gets worse comparing sli ws x-fire.In some older benchmarks like 3dm05 and 06 the gtx680 is beaten by the older gtx580 and even the aged gtx480.
Think it`s the turbomode that doesnt work well when oc`ing.

I thought you had to connect that EVGA power board thing to get half decent clocks with a 680?? Not sure though. Also it might have something to do with the fact that AMD are releasing kick ass drivers for the 7970 at the moment which allows the scores to keep getting better and better!!!!!

I know. Is it the case the GTX 680 caps out at a certain core speed and needs more power elsewhere to get more, whereas the 7970 keeps on going?

Did read somewhere, cant remember which exactly, that the gtx680 wont utilize turbomode at same benchmark at same settings,in 10 runs you get 10 different scores, where the hd7970 will give almost the same points/framerate in all subscores.
I was a little surprized that the 7970 has 8+6 pin power, but more surprized the 680 only has 6+6 pins.

Only a few got lucky.Kingpin made some good scores, but he needed 2002mhz to beat a 1750mhz hd7970.And he is about the only one in 3dm11 top 20 with a gtx680.There is only a little more than a handfull in top 100.
