BackDraft Evo (a Nanoxia DS1 Build)

Not much of an update I'm sorry to say, time for the next week or so is at a premium

However...

A 5 minute makeover job on my prized Avexir memory kit

So much better :D

And the Swiftech 8 Way PWM Splitter has arrived from The States

Looking awesome, great job!

How is this case compared to Fractal Design Define? (if you happen to have any personal experience).
It seems like they are aiming at the same target group and they remind me of eachother pretty much! :)

Thank you, very much appreciated :)

In essence this is a Fractal Design case with a few differences rebranded by Nanoxia, for example they use the same hard disk trays and PCI slot covers (same as in absolutely identical); the build quality is of the same high standard also.

Basically it's an R series with a few dimension changes and features namely -

  • The split front door arrangement.
  • The roof mounted pop up front panel connections.
  • It has a built in dual slider fan controller (3 channels per slider).
  • The front radiator mount.
  • The Air Chimney.

Well in the limited time I've had I've managed to finish up a couple of essential tasks...

I've sprayed the PCI brackets for both the GPU and sound card, I've gone for a textured satin black rather than the usual flat gloss.

I've also made up some non braided (yes you read correctly lol) front panel extensions.

Roll on my long awaited time off to do the hardware installation!!

The final prep task completed...

The installation of the Swiftech 8 way PWM splitter and the cable routing/wiring in of the four radiator mounted Piranhas and the three case mounted Alpenföhn fans.

And the view from the side that matters most

Yeah, I can live with that :)

I could IN that if it were a bit bigger. That case looks nicer than my living room!! :)

A few things to share with you before the hardware installation :)

Ok first up my choice in CPU block, it needs no introduction...

The XSPC Raystorm

I've opted to use the optional aluminium bracket ;)

And a couple of extra features for the case in the form of the PCI blanks I'll be using (again these have been sprayed black) and some blue anodized 6-32 thumbscrews.

I've managed to grab a day free of commitments of any sort :D

Hmmmm oh what to do...

I'll let the pictures do most of the talking ;)

Time to plumb in the loop.

Ot3ygOhl.jpg

Next up, prime the loop and leak testing...

g8jhDmyl.jpg

Well I'm pleased to say that BackDraft breezed through leak testing (not so much as a single drip) :D

Now onto the installation of the remaining hardware and then the hardware test/benches.

Up with the Sound Blaster Recon3D PCIe.

You'll recall I made up some non braided front panel extensions, the idea being for them to just fade into the backdrop.

And now some eye candy of the work completed thus far :D

It's coming together nicely! Very, very nicely!

Only thing I'm not too fond of is the tubing crossing eachother.

i need new boxer shorts 0_o

That was unavoidable mate without using a roof rad, though in all fairness it's a clean crossing tubing look ;)

Beautiful build !

Thank you, very much appreciated :D

are you gonna put another rad in the roof?

I've no need to Tripp, to explain...

I now have my 2600K running at a nice sedate 4.6GHz and decided to embark on a wee suicide run last night.

I ran 7 threads on Prime95 and Heaven simultaneously for an hour straight, the hottest core on the 2600K never exceeded 75°C and the 680 never exceeded 42°C, the ambient room temperture at the time of testing was 23°C.

That is just INSANE efficency off a single 240 rad loop IMO :D

^^ I think your rad is a monsta one though right?
The 240mm ones are supposed to perform as good as a slim 360mm rad, so that would explain it :)

It is indeed a Monsta ;)

Supposed to yes, radiator tests commonly use the 360 varieties of a given brand; technically it could be defined as a 480 folded in half as it's 80mm thick

A lot depends on the fans you use, it's mounting location in the case etc etc

So many variables to take into account...

There is no doubting it's overall effectiveness and efficiency in this instance however :D

Really nice and very clean build. Nice work!

Thank you, much appreciated :)

I am impressed with Temps on that rad. Nice rig too!

Better than I ever envisaged they would be

And thank you :D

Quick update...

I'm now about 70% done on the last of the wiring in and cable routing but that thing called lack of available time is once again conspiring against me :(

This is my take on cable ties to tidy up the PCI-Express cables :D

SoCCnQil.jpg

gLOOg6tl.jpg

I wanted to create a look to tie in (pardon the pun) with the brushed stainless.

17:53...

Ok so I've managed to get the final fix wiring and cable routing completed :D

(can I just say if you enjoy this part of a PC build process you are in need of psychological help and should please feel free to dial 999 now  )

d503a2dl.jpg

And my ever reliable Kingston Hyper X 3K 240Gb SSD mouted.

OXEUCHrl.jpg

The Kingston will be replaced by a Samsung Evo in the near future and supplemented by a Seagate Hybrid.

You called, so here I am!

Ah yes, I'm familiar with that. Nasty fucker, that is. Usually I take one pill of Put-off-other-things
against that.

[...img...]

Cable tidiness? Did you make that just for me? How nice of you.

Well then, good thing I'm already in a hospital, I'm sure they have a psychologist on staff
here. ;)

EDIT: Forgot to say: Really loving how this is turning out!

Nice SSD mounting! Also like the sleeving, just wish it was the same colour blue as the motherboard heatsinks and fans. :)
