silly question. but what is that loooong white expansion port at the bottom of this old school mobo?

Those are ISA slots (Industry Standard Architecture) which were later extended for use with 32-bit processors as Extended Industry Standard Architecture (EISA).

Basically it was an attempt to improve the AGP slot before coming out with the PCI/PCI-e slots. However, there are some places that still utilize ISA slots for extreme hardware.

I think it is rather ugly, the company that makes it is called ECS they also do an all gold GTX 680 to my knowledge I'm sure they do much more. But it is gold and someone may like it so I guess it could be awesome to someone.

My old faithful thats still cranking my Athlon XP 3000+
 
compared to old tech. almost all new mobo's and for that matter, almost all computer parts look pretty decent these days.
