Another Thermal paste question

actually ...a few

1/ Is it better to leave the thermal pad that the Corsair H115i's on and use that instead of thermal grease

2/ Have Artic Silver 5 kit ( cleaner, preparation and actual thermal paste ) in the fridge for nearly 2 years ( airtight container ) and when I put it on my CPU it looked "clear" and not grey. Is that normal or just throw the away ? CPU temp is only up a degree or 2 from what it was withe pad ( H115i)

3/How much difference does a good thermal grease make ?

Arctic Silver is not meant to be clear, Throw it away, The TM that Corsair supply on the AIO is actually pretty decent but you can lower temps even further with better TIM.

The TIM that a lot of high end users swear by now for all out performance is Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and a good TIM can make a decent difference to temps, In some tests temps are lowered by 5'c or even a little more when a good TIM is used.

You never want to penny pinch when it comes to ANY aspect of cooling.

Thermal Grizzly vs other brands -

I've been using the coolaboratory stuff for quite a while now.... I'm happy with the results, however, it's a PITA to apply and remove, you have to be really really really carefull

What is the difference between Thermal Grizzly "Kryonaut", "Aeronaut" and "Hydranaut"?...

Forgot completely that the op had said they stored it in the fridge.

For ASC2, the Arctic Silver recommend storing the syringes tip down, in a cool environment like a fridge to minimize any separation over time.

Last build I just used the thermal pad on the H115i and it worked ok but with a new CPU I have ordered a new H115i so I can use the pad ........ only kidding, ordered a new H115i because couldnt locate the 1151 standoffs to install the new 8700k and Corsair support is a pain in the butt.........just want 4 farkin standoffs and they want copies of my purchase receipts etc, hey, I would pay for the postage. So have the CPU and new mobo and waiting for the new H115i to arrive tomorrow hopefully. And that will be my last Corsair product.

btw: will do some o/c on this next Winter downunder

well it didnt dry out lol but it definitely turned it bad.

well after leaving it out of the fridge for a day or 2 I squeezed a little and clear came out then the silver, well the grey came out

must admit at first I thought it was my eyes going...........

But like I said the temp is only slightly hotter on the CPU.........with the clear stuff

anyway...its more about the thermal pad on the new 115i v grease like arctic silver or Mx5 .......
