Hi there Jim :)

I think you are the only dude on this planet who managed to try Phenom II in Asus M3A motherboard :D. So i have a question or two about your experience with it(i know it's a crappy board :) ).

What BIOS were you running at the time(if you can remember of course)?

Was the board "Asus M3A" vanilla,or did it have any additions to the name?If it was vanilla, than you indeed are the only man on the planet who managed to not only boot the new Deneb chip in it,you managed to even OC it :D! COngrats!

Sorry for the late quote,i just found out your post :).

Cheers!

Hey dude,

The board was the M3A78 Pro but unfortunaterly as I was concentrating mainly on the MESH built system, I didn't really take any notice of the BIOS version. The board was indeed pretty basic and the support for the Phenom II left a LOT to be desired as the only thing that it could successfully change was the FSB speed (vcore, multi...etc didn't work).

Maybe I had a good chip as i got the system to post at 4GHZ (despite freezing before it could start loading Windows). Semi-stable overclock was around 3.5/3.6ghz and it felt like a bit of vcore could have made it rock solid.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the reply, helps quite a bit :)

The board you used was slightly different than M3A vanilla, but almost the same. The vcore issue you described (vcore not changing over stock no matter what) is the same as on M3A + Phenom non-BE ,so i guess M3A would "behave" the same way in that regard. I suspect ,like you, that if you managed to really up the vcore by 0.1V the chip would be well stable above 3.5Ghz.

I'm contemplating changing the board(more expensive) or buying a Phenom II and trying it in this one :D.Still not decided :).

Thanks again for the quick reply :D

Best regards!!! :wavey:

I believe that the AM3 versions will be available within the next two weeks or so,hopefully this will bring AMD back into contention
