AMD roumors

And yeah, we're a small segment of the market but back in 2010 the figure was we were a 10 BILLION dollar segment. Thats a LOT of money and we're probably accounting for a little more than that by now. If AMD could just get 5% of that enthusiast market, thats $500,000,000 added to their bottom line. So while thats not enough to make them focus on the desktop PC as a priority, I think its enough that theyll try to keep making better and better CPU's for us.
Is the 10 billion dollar figure the PC gaming industry or the DIY enthusiast industry? I wouldn't have thought it was that big.

While AMD's financials aren't too good now. I will admit I like the angle the new CEO Rory Read is taking ie. trying to carve out a niche for themselves rather than trying to compete with Intel, between ARM CPUs, embedded custom chips, APUs etc. Kabini is a real winner there. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

5.2 is an outstanding overclock!! Thats definitely the highest Ive seen reported (by somebody that wasnt obviously full of shit! :D ). Dont tempt me. Im fighting temptation on a daily basis.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! :p

My 5.2GHz wouldn't be a 24/7 figure though, and I wouldn't really have tried benches either. I just wanted to validate as high an overclock as I could with the voltage under 1.55V. I'm running undervolted (-150mV) at stock now, don't see much point in running an overclock all the time as my 8350 is long long way away from holding me back in games.

From what it seems though, most people are able to get about 5GHz on water. Something in or around 4.8/4.9GHz is what seems to be the figure on air. You do need about 1.5V to do it though.

If nothing else, it'll tide you over until we see Steamroller! :p

meh stop with the temptation zoot please i really want rid of my bulldozer chip, but if i upgrade i will want to get a new mobo and i will then also need windows 8

^^^ You could pick up a 6350 if you wanted, last time I checked they could be had pretty cheap.

From a pragmatic point of view, you'd most likely notice no difference between the two, although you could push the 6350 well beyond 4GHz most likely.

i couldnt mate my mobo is bollox i cant even get my 6100 past 4ghz

Yeah thats what I would like to have. I bought the 8150 because it was supposed to be the better overclocker but Im stuck at 4.5 while I see a LOT of 8120's on OCN well into the 4.8's. Oh well. But mine is OCCT stable and solid enough that I can run Cool n Quiet which is a HUGE benefit. Having idle cores at .85 volts and 1400 MHz is awfully nice and makes for a lot cooler temps cause Im rarely using all 8 cores so this thing never gets out of the low 40's while gaming and stuff where it would dip into the low 50's when I didnt have CnQ enabled. I hate to admit it but Id rather have a 4.5 overclock with CnQ than a 4.8 without.

More rumours from the rumorsaurus. Hope there is some truth to this.

220W TDP! :o

I don't know, I can't see them releasing a CPU with such a high TDP.

Yeah, that's what I thought, 220w seems a bit crazy.

AMD are at Computex so if they have anything up their sleeves we should hear about it in the next few days. :)

There will be using the 8000 series of gpus in their "Richland" Apus. Not a rumor but still thought I should share the information.

The lower end OEM stuff like Dell desktops rebranded the 7770 and a few other cards as the 8770 etc if I recall correctly. The proper AMD 8000 series should be the 8850, 8790, 8950 and 8970 etc.

The low end cards are usually just rebrands anyway, maybe with a few changes to the clock and mem anyway.

Seems the 5GHz CPU story may have been true after all. At least according to Gigabyte anyway.

Very interesting, still a bit worried about the 220w part though.
Hopefully they can close the gap on Intel whilst remaining cheaper.
