So i saw this mentioned around the forum and so as you do i googled it but theres not much information there, So i thought i'd just ask these questions:

  1. What is it?
  2. Is it another APU
  3. Is another AMD Failure
  4. Will it run on a turbo of over 4GHz

So i googled it and there was alot of hype about the cpu running at over 4GHz on turbo mode

So what do you think and can you answer the above questions

Adam.

they're full Cpu's, suppose to go up against the Second generation Intel processors, just like their bulldozers rivaled the 1st generation Core processors, AMD is behind piledrivers suppose to come out this month as it's the beginnning of Q2

1. 20nm(or somewhere around that) processor from amd, probable the series will start from dual/quad all the way to 8 cores and maybe we might see a 12core who knows

2. no, although 20nm apu, would be totally awesome

3. so far yeah lol its meant to be released soon, i mean very soon but there still hasnt even been an announcement of it, probably same issues with bulldozer with compatibility and the drivers etc.

4.well 1100t can so i see no reason why not, since the piledriver is supposed to become the flagship series from amd to counter the 2nd gen intel processors, but we'll see about that soon enough(hopefully

I have to agree there a 20nm APU would be awesome because in theory it would be a whole new catagory of CPU's High Performance all in ones that would be awesome!

Trinity(32nm)(APU) is slated to come out May 15(or so the rumblings of many sites suggests) with both their desktop and mobile platforms. Essentially, this is a llano replacement. Not alot of conclussive benches but you can expect

-slightly higher oc ability then llano(new tech to decrease leakage)

-$80-150 price segment

-50% IGP improvement, really anyone's guess as far as the cpu capability, i'd say 10-15% improvement on llano

-crossfire capable(budget gaming system builders rejoice)

-fm2 socket type(new socket, not backwards compatible with llano)

-ddr3 2133(should help crap loads with IGP performance)

-based on piledriver cores, should indicate to some degree next edition FX processor capability

Vishera(32nm)(CPU), basically the next gen bulldozer(FX), slated Q3.

-Piledriver is a core architecture, to be implement in multiple platforms. Don't think we will see APU's with more then 4 cores(too much heat) and we wont see Piledriver used in FX till Q3 so maybe then we can fit a few more on.

-20nm would be hot as hell.

-May=trinity, Q3(or possibly later)=next gen Bulldozer

-Yes, even in trinity we will see 4.2ghz turbo pre oc

As far as I understand it:

- Bulldozer is the architecture (parallel hyper-threaded cores)

- The first set of FX chips was based on these with 2,3 or 4 cores (4,6 or 8 in AMD sales-speak)

- Can't remember if Llano uses those cores or not

- Piledriver is a refinement of the Bulldozer core architecture (die shrink? Or something more drastic?)

- Trinity will use 1 or 2 of those cores (so 2 or 4 in sales-speak)

- Will there be an FX chip using the Piledriver cores? Nobody knows. Afrer Bulldozer failed to impress, there was talk of AMD not bothering with the high-end desktop sector.

- Can they pull something out of the bag with Trinity and make it perform better than Sandy/Ivy Bridge? Only time will tell...

To be honest i see ivy bridge not going to well as performance increases go,and im hoping amd do what they did with the last arcatecture witch would be start of decent (although bulldozer is behind sandybridge) and then have the arcahtecture tweaked and changed to extract the best performance they possible can. i would love to see amd bounce back

Well I just called up AMD and I got some rather useless info. Its just a buldozer chip with a few improvements to the processor instructions and cache architecture, so its an improve bulldozer and AMD is pitchin it against the 2600K/2700K.

Ummmmm okkkkk then AMD!
