Hey!

At first let me explain you about whole deal wich im dealing with long time now.. i bought new computer with next configuration:

Intel Dual Core E8500 @3.16GHz - processor

Asus P5KPL-AM - motherboard

GeForce 9800 GT 1Gb -graphic card

WD 640 Gb

Transcend DDR2 RAM 2x2GB 800MHz

Power Suply 550W

Windows vista 32bit

I was trying to get help in alot forums in my country (Slovenia) and since i didnt get any usefull help im searching for help abroad... In hope that i get my answer.

So here we go..

Computer is working great on stock but I like to push things to thier limits but im sure i havent reached mine yet. At the moment processor is working at (411x9.5) 3.90GHz and it is working stable. Problem occours when i set FSB higher like if i set it from 411 to 412 and i restart computer it works but problem is that my disk is not detected.

I can see computer frequency in bios and at startup when i restart computer, but my disk goes off if i set fsb higher only for 1.

I have no idea what problem is.. Yes i have raised voltage and it is on 1.4V. And yes i have latest drivers instaled.

Already tried it on windows xp, windows vista 32 bit, vista 64 bit and even on windows 7 ultimate but problem persist.

I have no idea what to do more. This procesor is capable reaching much more than I am stucked at :nooo:

Any ideas suggestions are wellcome

Best regards, Chris

Ok, first off, Do not go spaming junk around the forum just to get your post count up. I've just wiped all the worthless posts down. If you need to post a link, just post it without the http: at the start and me or one of the other mods/admins will amend it.

No recognising a disk is a odd problem for to encounter while overclocking. I'd make sure you PCI/PCI-E frequencies are locked or set to apporperatie values to start. Next up try a few extra notches on the southbridge's voltage.

Every time I've encountered a no-disk found issue the solutions been plug it in a different SATA port and just re-boot.

Thank you for the tip about post.. and sry about it. i hope you are right i will try put sata disk into other hole and re-boot. thank you for the tip and here are those screens just add http to them

P.S:

Here I add some screen shots too:

shrani.si/f/1k/cO/4gfoK7r3/2/cpu-z.jpg

shrani.si/f/3r/T0/16T7rMjA/1/super-pi.jpg

shrani.si/f/I/bJ/3Cse4utJ/temperature.jpg

add "w.w.w." in front of those 3 screen links

p.s: what if my motherboard doesnt have option to lock pci/pci-e? can i do it on other way? and i think there is also no south bridge or north bridge voltage controlers in my bios. any other tip?

Ham can you tell me if you know how to lock pci/pci-e outside bios? Is there a way? And also with SB and NB -bridges is there a way to higher a voltage outside a bios? Or i need to buy a new motherboard? =/

If you lock it in the BIOS, SetFSB won't change it as far as I know.

All volts are set in the BIOS unless your motherboard has software where you can change it from within Windows.

As Ham said, give this a try:

heyah...

as i said before i dont have option in this bios to modify anything connected to any voltage or SB or NB.. and i found the reason for my problem.

It's simple..i cant belive I didnt figure it out earlyer..

>Thing is this motherboard officialy supports 1333 Front Speed Bus, but asus said it can go as further as 1600. But i already exceed that value..here is why:

411x4=1644 Front Speed Bus

Wich is maximum of this motherboard so im into buying a new mobo socket 775 and all tips wich can be overclocked the most are very wellcomed.

I am think of buying something like.

- ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP

- GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS5 X48

If anyone has experiances or knows wich motherboard would be really good overclocker i accept any ideas.

best regards,

Chris

A new board isn't a bad idea, if you're willing to spend the money for a minor performance increase.

The ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP is a DDR3 board, keep this in mind. You would have to upgrade your RAM to DDR3 too, which is rather pricey and not really worth it in your situation.

The GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS5 X48 is an OK board but you might as well go with a X38 board which work exactly the same. Put it like this, you can buy a high-end X38 board for the price of a low- mid-end X48 board. Also, make sure you're not buying a DDR3 board here. The one you tipped is a DDR2 board.

If you don't need a second or third PCI-E slot for video cards or whatever, you might as well consider getting a high-end P45 board for the price of a mid-end X38 board. P45 is one hell of an overclocker and the higher-end boards even come with a second (electrical x8) PCI-E slot.

I might really buy P45 board cause I am sure this processor is capable of much more and with my temperatures idle 25*C wich anyone hardly belived and all said i got it wrong but no i also checked it at bios exacly same as with Real Temp and other programs.

So if i buy P45 board im guessing i could hit 4.5GHz? Or am I aiming to high? And i think its not really minor performance increase E8500 was putting to test @4.25GHz and was match to Intel quad core 9550 in tests wich i was reading over the internet.

And I'm avare that Intel Core 2 Duo talking about E8500 is an hell of overclocker i manage to have it @3.9GHz with only 1.2V and i had IntelBurnTest all night on and everything was ok. I was laughing when i've seen some posts people asking if they can overclock E8500 to 3.3 or 3.4Ghz with stock cooler.. I mean i got stock cooler and everything is running smothly..just my obstickle is motherboard atm..thats why i need good suggestion wich mobo to buy so it will handle FSB speed wich intel hit when rising fsb so much. Also i need motherboard with pci/pci-e lock so i dont blow up my graphic card cause of oc'ing processor, wich i already heard it can happen too.

So if P45 has all of the specifications that i need than im ready to go and buy it. And yeah..I'm keeping DDR2 for sure cause for my opinion there is not much difference at DDR3 cause my opinion is that DDR2 can be quite good oc'ed. Originaly at 800Mhz @me running at almost 1GHz with voltage 1.900 and no problems at all.

And about second or third pci-e slot i dont need it cause when mine 9800GT will start letting me down (wich i hope wont happen yet atm running @GPU 700MHz @Memory 1300Mhz - 2600 effective speed) i might buy at that time 4850x2 2Gb.

Thats why crossfire for me is not an option.

And i bet i could reach 4.5GHz with better mobo but with better cooler..so any1 knows good 775 cpu cooler? Let me know thank you.

Thx for the tips i really appriciate it,

regards Chris

p.s:

wich mobo you had in mind with P45? Gigabyte? Asus? Be more specific. Thank you

About the CPU:

Depending on your stepping you'll either be able to clock 4.2GHz-ish fine with C0 or 4.5-ish with E0. (the difference in clock speed is made up by higher latencies on the E0 cache which results in about the same performance on a 350-400MHz difference).

Stock you're looking at 4.0-4.2GHz after that you'll find the stock cooler spinning up a lot due to the heat and not being able to cool satisfyingly.

Motherboard:

mid-end:

ASUS P5Q

Gigabyte EP45-DS3

MSI P45-Neo3

high-end:

ASUS Maximus Formula II

Gigabyte EP45-DS5 // EP45-Extreme

MSI P45 Platinum // Zilent

Foxconn Ela

These are mere, but accurate, suggestions.

CPU Cooler:

Watercooling (dûh)

Tuniq Tower 120

Thermalright Ultra Extreme-120

Scythe Infinity

Thermaltake Big Typhoon

Hope that helped.

First of all thank you for your enthoustiastic thread wich helps alot :)

About the motherboard i'll go for something high-end cause im sure i can get alot more juice from this procesor. Yesterday i was playing arround i was looking how far can i push the limits with this motherboard wich only supports 1.2VCore.

Like i wrotte before sata disk isnt detected when i higher FSB more than 411, but i can easily push it more and i still come in bios here i add one screenshot

where it is @4100MHz and easily entered bios

http://www.shrani.si/f/2A/SW/48tC7MNk/dscf3463.jpg

And on this screen no sata detected as result of highering FSB more than 411.

http://www.shrani.si/f/3c/tp/2Gd2r3by/dscf3461.jpg

It went all the way to the nice 452FSBx9.5=4.30GHz and i managed to be in bios with stock cooling, stock voltage. And about cooling i would go for watercooling but i think it would be waste of money cause i guess one of the good air-coolers could do the job.

Here are my current settings wich are stable with IntelBurnTest 24h+

Heyah!

I found something interesting MB 775 PCI-E MSI P45 ZILENT - 222,08 EUR and it comes with cpu cooler Zalman 9500 what do you think about is it good?

Chris

The Zalman 9500 isn't too bad, but the ones I listed from Tuniq down to Thermaltake are way better options.

No it's a horrible deal. I can get the Zilent for 158.- in the Netherlands, so a max. of 170.- is the price you're looking at. The Zalman 9500 isn't worth 52,08 by far!

Keep on searching though. If you tell us in what country you live we might be able to find some websites with you.

If you can take a look for me i live in Slovenia and I really dont know still wich motherboard to take and wich cooler. But it has to be ddr2 if it doesnt have sli its ok but if it does even better. And it has to have option to go over 1600 FSB and must be good overclocker.

And about cooler i would take the one wich makes the most effective cooling.

-Chris

Oh Slovenia, right.

Seeing you would pay a ton for the shipping from any western European country, try looking for a cheaper priced Zilent board or buy the one you found.

The cheapest I found (in Germany) is 150.- excl. shipping. But pretty much no webshop supports shipping to Slovenia.
