Well guys,

I'm not willing to hold out any longer for the much anticipated arrival of Nvidia's latest GFX cards. I have sold my trusted 8800GTX and my PCIe slot is begging for a filler....it is payday on Monday and I am seriously considering an XFX ATi5870 XT.... which is currentlt available for £338.....

What would you recommend I do?

Cheers

Well none of us can say about the Nvids yet really. but youve only got to read my review to see that the 5870 is the performance card of choice. id really advise the Asus if you plan to overclock it, as the voltage tweak bios is a joy to clock with! Would advise some better cooling if you want to push it though?

I'm waiting personally to see how good the fermi cards are. If they are amazing then I will get one, if not I will go ATi. Mainly because then the ATi cards will be even cheaper. If you can't wait though, then 5870 looks like a great choice!

If you wait for the next part then youll just keep waiting! ATI has announce the 5000 series line will be completely refreshed by the end of the year.....

Aye Tom.

Gotta take the plunge sooner or later.... new tech. is released so often these days there is always something better just around the corner. My 8800GTX has lasted me well and I have got a good price for the card so leaves me with £50 to put toward the 5870.... so, I'm all set, just not sure what 5870 to go for to be honest....

TBH that was one of the ones I had been considering....BUT..... absolutely nowhere is carrying stock at the moment.

Does anyone know if the Vapor-X are in stock anywhere?

Where is the cheapest place for the Asus card (with stock!!)?

I know scan has them but I wouldn't know if it's the cheapest. Also if you are planning on getting aftermarket cooling for it, check this out. This is a direct quote from one of the scythe forum moderators...

"Musashi Compatibility ATI 5870/5850

Hey guys,

i have new informations about Musashi compatibility and ATI 5870/5850. It works fine . The temperatures will be better and the Musashi is quiter as the retail GPU FAN. This are the first facts about 5870 & Musashi, other 5xxx cards will hopply come for testing "

They also have pictures but I'm not registered so I can't view them:p

I would go with the 5870 for sure i have one and i love it. But you might also want to wait a few weeks ive heard rumors that sapphire will be releasing a 5870 toxic version soon. There toxic/atomic cards have always been good.

Ordered the Asus 5870 today. It should be with me tomorrow guys. I will post some pics up on this thread of the card installed in my dinky (but powerful) mATX based system. Will be interesting to see how the card looks installed inside the Mini P180 case!! Will of course have a bash at a mild overclock, will hunt for better aftermarket cooling when it begins to become available.

Very nice! And as I said, according to scythe's forum the Musashi will fit, and it's not too expensive so you might want to look into that :)

Yeah, normally fit aftermarket coolers to my GFX cards so will hunting one out for the 5870...

I had a hunt around about the Scythe cooler and a silentPC review suggests that it is not compatible. I wonder if Thermalright or Zalman have anything in the pipeline....

It's fitted guys:
