Anybody come across any in their travels? I'm using Thermaltake's at the moment, but the 80mm ones are starting to crap out on me

Well, i wouldnt write off your fan just yet, i would attempt to fix it rather than spending money on other one (as i like saving money :D :p ). Pretty much all fans start making grinding noise after a while being used. Unless you cant really be bothered then buy a new one. This is how i repaired my Asus A8N mobo fan (all fans work very same way) (the noise was driving me nuts) and it worked a treat:

1. Take the fan off.

2. Peel off the sticker which covers very small (1-2 mm) hole.

3. Put some grease (dense oil) (very small amount, just about the size of the pin of the match) in that hole.

4. Clean that side with spirit or something like that so its not oily.

5. Stick back the sticker on or just stick some tape on it (on the hole).

And the fan is like new, no more annoying noise.

I would recommend trying this first, if that doesnt work (which is very unlikely) then get a new one ;)

Argh grease ? really ? man I`m sure that`ll gunge up with dust etc :p

Silicone perhaps ? (tis what I use ;) )

I didnt know how its called. Its really thick oil, like butter or even source cream. plus it wont get any dust as it is closed between the fan and the sticker :p

I really like these, they have the LEDs in the center (makes the fan light up)

They are not cheap but work well in my mods.

PS: they mod REALLY well too...

@ Kataras, thanks for the info but unfortunately I think there's something wrong with the motor. They have problems starting when the PC starts. For some reason even when a full 12v is being pumped to them they need a helping hand to get moving. They don't feel stiff either as i can spin them with my finger :(

@ Rasta, Marlkebb & Buff - cheers I'll check those out.

@ Ham - had the acryan's and they suck big time. I'll check out the Hipers tho :)

I had a pair of Hiper Hiperflow 120's........not good

They would have shaken themselves apart if not screwed down, between the noise and poor balancing
