6970 still on its feet?

How does the performance of a 6970 stack up with newer cards? I've heard it's competing with a GTX 570. I will be getting a second one pretty soon after I get this first one because they're quite cheap. Will I be able to max out games like BF3 and having an FPS that never drops under 60?

Also, is my i5-750 getting a bit too old? Will it hold back two 6970's? And is it worth upgrading my CPU and mobo for extra performance yet?

a crossfire of hd 6970's is almost the same as a sli of gtx 580's, you'll be able to max out any game i believe, even with one just card

Hey pal,

I've unlocked a 6950 to a 6970 (bios flash pipline unlock) and clocked it up to 6970 speeds. tbh they stack up quite well. I've seen my mates computer with a 7970 at it looks good. I wouldn't recommend crossfire with BF3 though, i'm having doubts with my setup at the moment.

Your i5-750 wont be too old/bottleneck.

I went for the GTX 570 in the end because the performance was literally identical as the 6970 and it ran a bit cooler.

The 6950 is a hell of a lot cheaper than the 570 now though, I'd go for that .
