680 to 780?

hey I need a little advice I have a ASUS GTX680 4GB Direct CU II, I've been comparing the 680 to the 780 and can see it is quite a bit faster than my current card.

Is the upgrade going to be worth my while?
I had thought about getting another 680 and putting it into SLI however i cant seem to find a supplier in the UK that sells my card anymore.

so yeah.... am i nuts for wanting to upgrade from the GTX680 4GB card?

Your not nuts your a PC enthusiast, I've just done the same thing, Ordered my 780 literally 10 minutes ago and sold my 680 yesterday

outta curiosity can i ask what you got for your 680? (if you dont mind saying here) and would i get anymore for mine saying its a 4GB card?

Well I sold my EVGA Superclocked W/Backplate 2GB version for £250 with P+P included so I'm guessing you might be able to get in the area of £300 for your 4GB model, Just a guess

Personally I wouldn't upgrade from a 680 to a 780. I think the gains there are too small to warrant such an expenditure. I would wait at least for Maxwell. But again this is me and what I'd do. None of us can say what is right and wrong in your circumstance if you have the money and the desire go for it, you'll be most happy following your own mind on the matter.

Yeah, I agree with the guys above. It would be crazy to upgrade, given the 680 can handle all of the latest games with ease.

I agree too! If you were going higher than 1080p, it would be good to upgrade, but your 680 is still pretty good!

If you've got the cash and won't be taking food off the table, I say do it. I just bought my GTX670 and am SERIOUSLY thinking about doing the EVGA Step Up program, coughing up an additional $150 and getting one myself.

So yeah, I'd get it if the money wasn't a problem. Playing Crysis 3 at 60 fps average at full tilt settings would be worth it alone!

I just bought a second 670 today for the exact same reason for wanting to play Crysis 3 at 60FPS. With one card I can struggle to keep a stable 30FPS at times, my only worry is the 2GB VRam and whether or not that would be enough. Also the 670 MSI PE was going cheap with £20 cashback so I thought why not.

Finally got my two in today. Was too busy all week to tear my rig down for them.

I do have my EK blocks for them here but I wanted to test them on air first to make sure they both worked. I have to say I'm really surprised at the cooler on them it is so quiet I can't actually hear them over the other sounds in my office. I'm now thinking about not bothering putting the blocks on.

Yeah that surprised me to be honest. My old GTX 480's were so incredibly loud on air that I had to watercool them or my wife would chuck my PC out a window. But these are completely different, they really are inaudible to me even while in Crysis 3. I don't think I will bother water cooling them but if I do it'll only be for looks.

I was thinking about upgrading my case to a 900D and using internal radiators. If I end up doing that I might put the blocks on them just to complete it but until then the blocks can stay in their boxes.
