I'm still mass debating over which card I want to buy next.... Should I just wait for a next-gen card?

connect3d x850xt is selling for less than 500 dollars on newegg. You might wanna look into that , with a few volt mods , that thing should fly. Or you can wait till the next gen cards are out and the present cards go cheaper :D

I've always had that feeling about ATI as well. I like how they use less power, only need a small gpu cooler, and are silent. ATI has a very stable history too. This is why I went with the x800 pro over the 6800 gt when they were first out, besides the fact I got it for $360.

All companies make mistakes , at one point of time or the other. ATI were nowhere in the picture till they came out with 9500 pros and 9700 pros. The geforce line was kicking 8500 model's ass at that point. ATI was going in loss becoz most of the time people would buy 9500 pros and soft mod it to 9700 pro . But they kept up the production becoz of the publicity. Then Nvidia fked things up with their FX lineup big time. However their comeback with the 6800 series sent ATI running to the drawing board. Nvidia to me convey brute power while ATI conveys Silent performance. Nvidia cards run hot , need power but damn they run nicely.

ATI has the shittiest OpenGL performance ever , not to mention their drivers cannot bring out the performance not matter how many updates. Nvidia on the other hand rapes in OpenGL and has decent Direct3d performance. So the choice in the end comes down to , whether you play more games encoded in Direct3d or in Opengl. For those who play both , Nvidia offers a better deal , but people who play HL2, Farcry , CS:Source ATI is the way to go .

Yep....that's about it really....nice one bourne...reppies for you....

I have an nvidia cause I want the option to play both the type of games...quake 4's out soon......... :cool:

i believe the main reason for atis shit OGL performance is cause basically the OGL engine on all its cards is identical to the one on the 97/500 which is quite old;

all designs since the 9700 have really just focussed on upping dx9 capabilities, pixelpipeline count and clock speed in reality the OGL engine the the same that the ARTX team set out to design @ the turn of the century (2001 but turn of the century adds effect)

I don't think ATI's are horrible in opengl, nvidia is just a clear winner. The geforce 6 pulled out a factory of whoopass this round. If I was to go back 8 months, with $400 I'd buy a 6800 gt easily and with $200 I'd go with the 6600 gt. If I had to buy a card now, I'd go with an x800 xl for it's nice quality/price ratio.

rite now im packin a punch with my Hercules 3D Prophet II GeForce2 GTS 64MB DDR AGP4x because my BFG is out because I've been doing a lot of memtest lately and I don't want my BFG Fan's runnin @ 100% full time for no reason.

lol probably not a bad move mate!

I would never sell old computer stuff because I'd only end up getting pennies for it. I'd rather keep my mx4000 and 5200 ultra around for backup then get 35 cents for them. In the future, they're probably be worth something. Their value will drop and drop and drop until about 2020 when people think old crappy computer stuff is cool. Then it will slowly rise again. When I'm 100 I can sell it for 10x what I got it for.

Well my 3d scores are not great....my GPU is kickin serious ass...but for some reason aquamark gives me sucky scores....god knows why....here my latest 2k1 scores...its ok....GPU underclocked from what I usually bench it at...but its ok:
