3930k degrading?

hi had my 3930k for coming up to 2 years, it always been at 4.5Ghz when i first got it it needed 1.36v, then after about 1 year it needed 1.38v and now it needs 1.4v to stay stable at 4.5Ghz.

Is it degrading or something else to blame?

What's the maximum I could safety take it to regarding voltage. Hope it lasts until Haswell extreme.

I would just downclock it to about 4.3ghz and see if you can drop the voltage some more. Performance difference will be unnoticable but it should help extend the life of your CPU enough till Haswell-e comes out.

Set CPU to 4.2Ghz and 1.38v, how long do i need to make it last roughly till haswell extreme, do you think they will still use x79 and 2011 socket?

Haswell - E will use an entirely different socket and probably DDR4 memory. Haswell - E could be with us around the 4th quarter this year or early next year.

1.38v seems to be a bit high for 4.2ghz, as TTL said test to see if you can run at a lower setting.

1.38v is very high for 4.2ghz. Personally i would go back to stock and get those volts as low as possible. Your CPU really got its ass kicked over time as is evident from those settings.

I find it very disappointing that for the money these things cost that they degrade after such a short time

Trouble is people insist on running high clocks and volts often when they are not needed and sometimes just for epeen.

I just run mine @4.0ghz, I don't mind admitting I have a small one (overclock that is).:D
