120 FPS in battlefield 4

I'm getting the ASUS 24' 144hz gaming monitor for christmas.

I can get 60 FPS easy (v-sync) on ULTRA settings with my Sapphire 7950(not overclocked).. If I get another 7950 and crossfire, will this give me 120 FPS or close to it? I know on medium settings I can get 120 FPS with just a single card, I'm sure at least high settings would do.

i'm quite sure it will get you above the 100fps threshold for an average framerate. given my dual 7870 tahiti le cards hover around the 80-95 fps region at stock.

then next month there is the heavily anticipated Mantle patch which by current estimates should give a 20%ish performance boost. also a factor to consider

you are using vsync in a multiplayer fps? that causes input lag you know...

How so?

Mantle in the case of BF4 will be far more optimized for performance improvement than visual. So i would suggest waiting until you can see what kind of performance increase you can optain first... Also if i was you i would go for a 1440p monitor over a 120/144hz (both are useless unless you can stay at those refresh rates consistently/constantly) anyday but thats all personal preference.

I've seen a lot of reviews to know that 120fps gives you a very good benefit in FPS gaming. Even if it doesn't hit 120fps, but the monitor supports it your game will be a lot smoother, with less input lag to defeintly give an edge.

Later next year or two, i'll be looking at the 3k-4k monitors, and i'll need a whole new gpu for that.

All overhyped in my opinion. 120hz monitors make it feel smoother but if your only getting say 80fps then it still does not look perfect, looks just as bad as 60hz but with addition of feeling smoother- which translates to people saying more accurate and precise.

I know what hype is, but when you read numerous reviews from actual buyers and know someone who really has one. Then all that "HYPE" goes out the window, and "FACTS" come into play...

No need to become so defensive? Lol
I also stated a fact. Which is the reason those reviews/buyers and that friend all say the same thing.

Meh, we will see.. I made this thread to know if I can get the frames or not, not anyones opinion on getting a higher resolution monitor.. But thanks for your opinion anyways.

You forgot my other opinion i see. I advised waiting until mantle actually comes out before making any monitor buys.

it just does that, i don't know why. try any fps, enable vsync, play a little and you will notice that it feels like the game is lagging behind when you move your mouse, disable vsync and it's on point again.

120hz is pretty sweet for fps players, but IPS has better colors. i'm about to buy a 120hz monitor as well, but i know that i get the framerate necessary in the games i play anyways.

/edit
how far back is mantle going to support AMD cards? 4xxx series?

This is sadly true, for example on source engined FPS games it causes some sort of weird mouse acceleration/deceleration, making aiming much more challenging.

I never knew that. That is very odd:confused:

All cards with the GCN architecture can use Mantle.
All (AMD) cards starting with the HD7450 and up are GCN architecture.

+1 this is a perfect answer. Also includes future GCN based GPUs as well.

I have the monitor you are getting, i wish i went 1440p, yes i can game at 100+ fps but 60 still looks gorgeous.

The only "advantage" is the 3d and even then ive used it once for gaming and several times for films thats it.

I will be selling my monitor to get either a 1440p or 2x 23" 1080p monitors for trip screen.

and you will get the frames around 75 i spose for a single card. but the update will help.

you are playing the wrong games then, for competitive FPS games there is nothing like a 120/144hz monitor

120Hz TN vs. 60Hz IPS is matter of preference, and you should give both a spin. I much prefer IPS, but some more hardcore FPS players swear to 120Hz. Heck, I know some Quake players who refuse to abandon their CRT, namely Sony GDM-FW900. They run them at 100Hz (or was it even higher?), have framerate capped at something along the lines of 300, and say that anything flat pales in comparsion.

Double up on 7950s and drop to high settings with some ultras mixed in and you should be at 120fps const. with very nice image quality :)

/EDIT : I also think even with a mild OC you should be able to max it... somewhere around 1140mhz should do it me thinks :)

2x7970 ghz

This is so annoying for me, I have two 7970 ghz edition in crossfire, and running at 1080p with everything on medium I get only like 60 fps on average!

I wanna play with 1440p and at least high settings damnit...I don't know what the hell is wrong :(

Its tempting to just say screw this and get two, or at least one, 780 Ti...
