Is this ghosting? Acer xb271hu

Hello! This is my first time posting here. Here's the link to the Reddit page where I've also posted this issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/6cmjzu/i...

Recently, I upgraded my PC to a GTX 1080 Ti and an Acer xb271hu monitor. I've been experiencing what I think are issues with this monitor. When I turn my mouse around, I get some kind of image doubling, to where it looks like there are many copies of the same image moving along with my camera movement.

I am running my games on max settings with my monitor at 144 Hz and G-Sync enabled. I'm getting 144 fps, so I don't think it's lag. I tried lowering the Hz to 120 and 60, G-sync off, OD set to off, normal and extreme and I tried ULMB mode as well. Things stayed the same.

Is this called ghosting? Or is it just a normal result of me spinning my mouse around too fast? Is this a result of this being an IPS monitor. Would going to a TN monitor solve this problem for me? I don't have any experience with higher end monitors, so I would appreciate any help you could give me.

I recorded some videos of this phenomenon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zuDKXyIsT4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P361DgiqkTw

Notice how there are like 5 copies of the wires when I turn.

Thank you in advance!

Even with high refresh rates, you will still find that this happens. For example on your desktop if you make a solid black background as your wallpaper and move your mouse around very fast, you will see ghosting on the cursor.

This looks like that. It looks worse than normal but that may be due to the fact you are using a very high cpi mouse(like 8000 for instance) and when moving your mouse around trying to replicate this it just amplifies the problem.

Unless even when moving very slowly and using a very insensitive mouse it still happens then yes I would say it's an issue. But if that resolved the problem then yeah it's just how fast your moving.

I'm not a monitor guru or anything. I could be wrong. But just my take on it

I have the xb271hu and a gtx 1080ti and im going to test it tonight and report back. I have three different mouse profiles set up one with 1000 dpi, a 3000dpi and a 700dpi. I will report back later tonight of tomorrow when i have finished.

I have overdrive off/ adaptive contrast 0 and a custom colour profile i calibrated on the screen. I will see if i can get recordings.

What games have you used and seen this problem most monitorman123?

From my early testing on the desktop NeverBackDown is exactly right. The DPI settings on your mouse do make a difference. I noticed it especially on black backgrounds where you do def see a lot more ghosting at higher dpi

I used to get this on my Acer 4k monitor when using an AMD card. It was like a green/blue outline around everything, even on the desktop.

Acer are poo. I will never darken my desk with another one of their products.

I like my Acer monitor. No issues or dead pixels. Better than an Asus at least. You get those if you want to return it for defects every week:p

Well I did some testing and with higher dpi I could reproduce the problem in certain games like bf4. I tried three different gpu and on a different monitor with g sync and you see some ghosting. At 120hz with ulmb it was a little better. My friend has the same panel and gpu but has never seen any ghosting but has a dpi setting of about 400

Thank you for the replies! I appreciate your help.

This problem is really annoying to me, as it makes my eyes water whenever I'm turning my mouse around. I thought this might have been an issue with me going with an IPS display rather than a TN one but I guess maybe this is just a normal occurrence.

I mostly notice this in shooters, where I have to turn a lot and very rapidly. I don't notice this as much when watching videos, doing browsing or playing games that don't require a lot of mouse movement.

I was considering going to a TN monitor because of this but I guess if this is normal, I would rather not sacrifice the good colors of IPS displays.

Has anybody else experienced this happening?

If yours is overly bad, I would suggest a RMA? If the new replacement is like that then it would be considered normal. If it is not, then you would have gotten a bad one:)

I have a pretty low end mouse, so I don't have the option of changing it. When I move more slowly, it isn't as bad, though I often tend to move around a lot.
