Hey Folks so im currently rocking a 20" Samsung T200HD at 1680x1050, 60hz, 5 ms
Its done me well but have come into a decent amount of money recently and its time for a full upgrade including my PC which is a core 2 duo overclocked and a GTX 650 ti :/

Im Currently looking at this Monitor G2730HSU-B1 It's Full HD, 27", 75hz and 1ms and Freesync.
I can pick it up for Under the 200 pound mark and seems like a good deal is 144hz really worth it if your GPU cant produce a steady 144 fps whats the point?

I want to Future proof this pc has lasted me 8 years and want my new 1 to last at least 5 without any upgrades.

I play mostly FPS games with a large amount of Simulation and RPG's as well i want to be Playing all the new Releases at a Minimum of 60-FPS :)

The two main Components your wondering about are the CPU and GPU am i right so looking at getting either a Ryzen 5 1600 or Ryzen 7 1700 and GPU possibly a GTX 970 to start with off my friend and later on a RX VEGA 56.

Please any help is greatly appreciated

144hz is sooo much smoother in just desktop mode, for that alone i would always recommend one, and even if the system cant push 144 fps on games, you wouldn't be needing Vsync to stop tearing, which also adds a tiny bit of input lag, a 144hz now is just, yeah no reason not to.

The HP Omen 32" looks really good. Good price and seems to be getting good reviews. It's only 75 Hz but it's Freesync which will help.

I love gaming at 120+ fps which is why I spent $500 on a 144 Hz monitor a couple years ago but the problem is most of the games I play are capped at 60 fps. I'm kinda thinking if upgrading to a 1440 60Hz monitor that has superb picture quality as opposed to fast refresh rate. Why give up picture quality for refresh rate if all these console ports are going to be capped at 60 fps?

144Hz isn't only smoother when you get the full frame rate, though obviously it's preferrable. But when you suffer a fps drop your monitor will pick up the next frame sooner, making stutters and tearing slightly less noticable.

Or maybe I'm just worse at paying attention, I used to pick up every frame drop with a 60hz monitor, now I happily game at unstable 90fps with a 144hz monitor. :D Oh and since the monitor you're looking at has freesync, that is really helpful, and probably better than anything under 144fps on such a monitor.

Though if you're a fan of simulation and RPGs, investing in a IPS 60Hz panel could be a decent idea as well for much better colour reproduction.

If you want it to last 5 years without upgrading anything I would suggest the Vega 64 over the 56, more power now just means later on it's only just enough.
I also suggest a 1440p 144hz monitor. I am using one with Fressync and I do enjoy it. I personally think Freesync/Gsync are meh and don't add much but the resolution and high refresh rate are worth getting.

Yea i think Vega 56 is more than adequate though and although a 1440p 144hz monitor does sound good but there around 400 pounds and that's a lot and im not going to get a 60FPS min in all the latest games at that resolution were as with the 1080p 75hz i should be able to also With the Ryzen 7,Gigabyte k7, 16gb Ram and 500gb NVME thats already 900 pounds.

Just lower the settings then. You won't need 8xAA or even 2xAA. Plenty of things to get the performance up. You'd be surprised how little of a difference there is between high and ultra. You'd only notice in screenshots.

It is however your choice but if you go 1080p it's just silly to get anything below 120hz when you have such strong hardware. You'd basically be wasting half the power.

Im in 2 minds atm As soon as i seen RX VEGA 56 i knew i wanted it although your right in saying it would be wasted although spending 400 pounds on Monitor just seems a bit mad in my Current situation.

In case you haven't read my Post Im Currently using a 20" 1680x1060 60hz 5ms Monitor and i find it fine for gaming although i think the Larger Screen size would help and the Thin bezel for the immersion and to go dual monitor later on.

Do you think the Above monitor will Look good and suit my needs im hoping my Friend is going to supply me with his old GTX 970 and will see later down the Line how GPU prices go?

With the Above Motherboard Bundle and a RX Vega plus a 1440p 144hz Monitor im looking at 1800 Pounds and thats just to much.

For gaming and finding the monitor sweet spots you should be looking at..

1080p 19 - 24" (27" if you can get an IPS 1ms panel) 60/75/120Hz.
1440p 24 - 32"
4K 32" and above

It's all about pixel density, refresh rates are only relevant if your system can maintain the FPS, aim for what you can achieve hardware wise a GTX1070 will run at 1440p in most titles but don't be surprised if in some it drops below the FPS/Hz vertical sync. I'd say for anyone wanting to play at 1440 comfortably and not worry about tears or bad sync go for a GTX1080 or AMD equivalent.

Word of warning though, if you start gaming at 1440 you'll soon hate seeing anything at 1080p after that

1080 can work at 27" but it's pushing it. I went with a 27" 1080 cause I thought the lower resolution would help get higher framerates and I don't really regret it. If I look at some material close enough I can see some jagged edges but you really have to be looking. Still, 1440 is about right for 27" and assuming you've got the GPU horsepower to keep frame rates around 100+ then 27" @ 1440 would be the best way to go. But 1080 is still just fine for a 27 at least in terms of gaming so long as it's a quality monitor like my BenQ which has been great and the best monitor I've ever owned.

Please delete if im not aloud to Link

It has Anything you Could possibly need from a high end 1440p, 144hz, 1ms Monitor and should do well for years to come Couple that with a Aftermarket RX VEGA 56 and its a force to be reckoned with For full system specs see below.

I've also decided i want to start streaming on Twitch all the Latest games any help is much appreciated?

I Will be Building my new System at the End of September Parts listed Below

Gigabyte AORUS AMD AM4 Ryzen AX370 GAMING K7 ATX Motherboard

Still Undecided on what Manufacturer of memory to go with but it will be 16gb DDR4 at as fast a speed possible probably 3466mhz If Ryzen will allow such speeds with future BIOS/UEFI updates

Samsung 500GB 960 Evo PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive - For my Windows 10 and all my games never had a SSD before and this is apparently 5 times faster than one :)

AMD VEGA RX 56 - Will be waiting for the Aftermarket cards to come out and get 1 of them so i can overclock it to its full potential seeing as Reference cards are coming in at the £367 think £400 is a good price for one of these.

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit - I love Windows 7 but cant use the latest Features and DX12 without 10 so will be getting this :/

^Above^ are the new parts i will be acquiring and these will be the ones im keeping from my current build

So we go from not wanting to spend to much then go all out? Tha escalated quickly lol:p

Looks fine to me. I'd probably go Gskill for the memory.
And since you are kinda locked into AMD with that monitor now, I'd go with a Vega 64 personally. Unless you want to output the stream at 1080p instead of 1440p. It's always nice to have more power when streaming but if you don't want to upgrade then you should be fine

Thanks for the Reply also i think Streaming in 1080p is best as that's what most people have and a VEGA 56 will be more than adequate and within my Budget.

I got my Subscriber edition of Custom PC Today and the G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB Kit DDR4 3200MHz had a Great Review and overclocks to 3466mhz so will prob get it

Yea never got around to buying one and now im going for a 500gb M.2 NVME drive which are apparently 5 times faster than a standard SSD god knows how much quicker than my hard drive :) my OS/Game load times will be a crazy quick :)

I have just upgraded from a Samsung 940 256gb ssd to a wd 256gb NVMe drive. And game load times cut in half. I also upgraded from a 2500k. So that probably helped.

Wow you are going to lose your SSD Virginity, your socks are about to be blown clean off at the speed difference and you'll then wonder why you didn't make the leap sooner.

I know You can see from my Signature why i need a Upgrade saying that has done well for being 8 years Old and has been overclocked all the time :)

I have the iiyama B2783QSU and i'm extremely happy with it. I have had it for just over a year now and it still looks as it did when I bought it excellent monitors the iiyamas

I know one monitor that you should be wary of - Qnix UHD3216 32" 4K monitor...
