ZOMG! New Mac Pro looks awesome!

It's an interesting concept, looks very Bose. I was only saying yesterday I bet they re-release the Pro in a smaller form factor, but 10 inches high? You have to admit, cramming that all in that small case is impressive. But yes, temperatures will be the killer here, maybe it'l work, there's ALOT of allu in the middle of that thing.

As for 'not swappable' if you look at the inside pics, looks like most of the logic boards ARE swappable/upgradeable, even if they are custom PCB's and connections. You have to accept that if you change something THAT much in terms of layout etc, then you have to do something to make it fit.

I, personally, like it. I think it's an interesting step forward. I know people will hate on it, because it will be expensive (we'll see on that, but yeah, it's a Mac right?). But you can't deny it's impressive to ram 12 cores, 2 gpus, pci express ssd (i don't see space for a hdd though?) and the psu into that much space...

But y'know, haters gonna hate.

Apple pies

What I don't get though; People always claim that Macs are the absolute best for editing and using programs like Adobe. But we all know that Adobe likes CUDA. Why do they keep putting AMD cards in there?

OS must play a huge part.

All the Adobe's demos I've seen have been on a Mac. They wouldn't do that if it wasn't the best platform for it, surely?

This is a warning

you guys sound stupid. It sounds like you just want some kind of a reason to not buy Apple for the sake of it. You even try and sound smart about it, but really, you sound pathetic.

I bet all of you own Intel CPU's, buy names like Nike, Supadry etc and eat at Mc Donald's.

LMFAO! I assume the others are getting a warning for chatting complete shit then?
I wasn't specific, but they should know who they are.

If they can successfully put two fully fledged 6 core Xeons in this thing I'll be sold. It's going to be expensive as hell, but I think it looks fantastic.

^ I don't really like the look of it to be fair man. I think it'll look better in person maybe. Have you seen it without the cover on it? Id leave it like that :P

It's understated, which is always favourable for me.
But also when you compare the size of this thing to the old model...it's just ridiculous!

I know right!

I was thinking how you could build something similar with off the shelf parts, but it would end up so much bigger.

Unfortunately that's where the price premium is going to come in. Custom logic boards and all that jazz, it really wouldn't be feasible for anyone but an OEM to try and pull this off.

Size really doesn't matter imo *chuckles*
The truth is that if they actually made it normall desktop size, it would probably actually be better. Looks over function, I guess ehh?

I agree, I would much rather just build my own in a case with more room for cooling.

Well of course everyone here would rather have something THEY built. I just posted this because i genuinely believe it's an awesome bit of engineering. I'm sure everyone can agree, even if the aesthetics are a little errrr. Personally i'll wait to see one before i decide.

I'd love one, but i also love building my own computers and i know it's going to be way outta my price range. I can't even afford to "spec match" a similar powered PC using the cheapest components i can find.

Definitely, but then again, Apple drop the price on their other computers with every upgrade, or at least match it to their previous generation.

I'm sure the copy cats wont be that far behind. Bet Dell etc are having or have planned a meeting to discuss this already.

I'm a massive Apple fanboi (and shareholder in fact) but even I don't know how many of these they can sell. I'm thinking at least 98% of all potential mac users will be served perfectly adequately by either an rMBP or an iMac. The top-end iMac still has an i7-4770S and a GTX 765MX plus 32GB memory and SSD/FusionDrive storage options - that's a LOT for all but the most top-end of pro-users. Ok if you need, and can afford, three 4K displays then the price of the Mac Pro won't put you off but I just can't see them selling.

^ You're forgetting the people that simply have more money than sense, and buy it just cause they can.

I see Pixar and the likes as the real pro user base. Like big big industry stuff. Not just some geezer that takes pics at a wedding or something lol.

it looks like a kitchen appliance. :)

just leave it in a office kitchen and somebody going to pour coffee into it lol

Screw apple all i was excited about was the 4096 stream processers.. If both have this many.. WOW but if they both equal 4096 then meh. I was just hoping because if each had their own 4096 then i wouldn't doubt the 9970 could hold that many too:)

apple's business plan is to get people so used to their products that they cannot move to anything else. they even use a unique keyboard, just to make any other layout seem foreign to them.

as a student i know tonnes of mac users, many of which are in my engineering course. all of them that use it for work require a windows install.

Windows is the best simply because of its market share. If a Software Dev wants to earn money then he gets his shit on windows OS and possibly support Mac/Linux. So therefore many companies use windows. Not all but a majority. Correct me if i'm wrong on anything as i do not generally got into all the uses of the 3 OS's very often.

Possibly not as apple users generally are willing to pay over the odds for anything with an "i" in front of it ;)
