ZOMG! New Mac Pro looks awesome!

Apple just gave developers at WWDC a sneak peek of the next Mac Pro, a revolutionary and radical new design for the next ten years. “Can’t innovate anymore, my ass!” quips Phil Schiller.

It’s a major departure, with a major new stealth look. The new Mac Pro is built around a new unified thermal core, with a new generation 12-core Xeon processor. Twice as fast as the previous generation. The memory’s also super charged, 1866MHz DD3 with a 60GBps bandwidth. This is a powerhouse.

The internal storage is new PCIe Flash, which is 2.5X faster than any flash ever built, and ten times faster than the fastest Mac hard drive.

It’s expandable through Thunderbolt 2, with 20GBps throughput. That’s double the performance of industry standard. This will be problematic for some types of expansion, like video. It comes with six Thunderbolt ports, driven by three Thunderbolt controllers.

The new Mac Pro comes with dual workstation GPUs, with 528 GBps total bandwidth. It also supports up to 3 4K displays.

“This is a Mac unlike any that we have ever made,” says Schiller. And it’s tiny: just 1/8th the size of the past Mac Pro.

Please.... No hate. This thing genuinely looks awesome and packs a whole lot of power into a stupidly small chassis.

Reminds me of an Alienware. All they need is a gray Alienware logo in the center. My biggest worry is the size. Are the insides of the Pro going to be like an iMac?

Nothing super exciting at WWDC. I was really only concerned about the iOS side of things. Pretty much all the new features are playing catch up. They are welcomed for sure, but nothing to get excited about.

-Airdrop will be a neat feature
-Finally a flashlight app built in
-Control Center is something I've wanted for aaaaaaaaaagggggesss. Happy to see it's finally there.
-Real multitasking and switching...finally
-Folders can now have more than 12 apps in them!!! Again, about damn time

The whole look of iOS felt very Windows-phone like to me for some reason.

Edit: When they said the Mac Pro was a cylinder shape, they meant it. It's literally a tube. Looks like lots of proprietary connectors inside. Very iMac in the internal design.

My only question is how stupidly over-priced will this thing be, and who are they going to try to sue first after other manufactures or companies try to duplicate or mimic it's features.

Frankly, I don't care how powerful, sleek, innovative, or even how much it might cost, I simply won't own Apple products. I am firmly against their business practices and their arrogance.

Honesty, being a mac user. this just didn't thrill me. I was hoping that they would open it up a bit more, because i think the thing about the Mac Pro was at least you could stick in a new graphics card or whatever. But thats not apple's style and never will be i guess.

Have to agree with Savage too. that thing is gunna get seriously hot with 2 graphics cards in there.

I agree with hmmblah though iOS 7 was the main event there. It is catching up with many of the things that people have been dying for, myself included. (One of the reasons i moved away from iOS) with the control centre and lots of nifty little features like the perspective thing which is a nice gimmicky thing but awesome nonetheless ;)

All in all. It was okay. But i was hoping for some updated MacBook Pro's not just the airs.

I just saw it a few minutes before I read this post and all I could do is laugh. The design must have been left over from a proposed april fools joke

I think we can all agree that is a good LOOKING design, but I have serious doubts it will function very well, from the looks of it one intake/outtake? With the powerful (and hot) components listed running 24/7 (as it's a pro workstation) this thing has the potential to be either a massive failure or a huge success.

I wholeheartedly agree sir, I refuse to own anything from a company with such a lack of morals or social responsibility.

It has good graphics though. Surely the rest of it will be outdated before the graphics are?

Traditionally, pro computers have relied primarily on the CPU for their computing power. But as GPU performance has dramatically increased, software developers have begun to leverage that power in their apps. With the new Mac Pro, we looked ahead and engineered an even more powerful GPU architecture. Not only does it feature a state-of-the-art AMD FirePro workstation-class GPU with up to 6GB of dedicated VRAM — it features two of them. With all that power, you’ll be able to do things like seamlessly edit full-resolution 4K video while simultaneously rendering effects in the background — and still have enough power to connect up to three high-resolution 4K displays.

You could anyway through thunderbolt.

im not a fan of apple, but the thermal core design looks very interesting, would be good to see some temperature figures when they are released.
