Hey guys and girlz.

I just received my XFX HD6970 in the mail. Only to find out that it requires a 6pin(which i have) and an 8pin (that I dont have) Power connector.

My PSU says HEC-550VP-2DE. Do I now need to buy a new PSU??

Any tips on what PSU, considering I am on a budget till my refund comes back from Mesh who are a bunch of m--k-ys!!

Please give me good news or I will start crying, I'm in sooooo much pain after a long day , the morphene isnt helping yet and I just want this bloody thing to work!!!

Rant over.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

a 6970 with a 550w PSU?

you need a new psu right nowwwwwww

im guessing its a cheapo psu as my 520w has a 6 and 8 pin

they only require a 500w psu, it pulls 190w average with 250w under load. I just dont have all the connectors, the 6950 I was sent mistakenly by the company only needed 2x6pin and it came with adaptors too. Saphire sends more stuff in the boxes. XFX just sends card...

Here goes another lump of cash on a new PSU.

What would you suggest?? Ill be buying from Novatech.co.uk, they are cheap and dont make mistakes on orders. The delivery is also rapid. Could you have a look and recommend one please;)

Do NOT go cheap on the PSU because they will die and you will likely lose half of your components with it. Get a decent one like a Corsair.

Easy ;P we are all friends here

)

Would you not go for http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/powersupplies/novatech/nov-psb750.html even??

Ive had great experiances with these guys and dont have hundreds to throw about atm. Bought a Noctua NH-D14 and a HD6970 this month on top of being owed over £2200 by the Mesh peoples. That puts a rather large hole in the pocket.

I suppose I could wait till next week to install the new card and get a good PSU after payday, but I want to pew pew NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Could you suggest one from the site? Im more than happy to work on suggestions

Novatech is really similar

It wouldnt surprise me, their stuff has always treated me well, I have a 17" gaming laptop from them that has never even considered slowing down or giving even a days grief. I am a believer in sticking with things that work and avoiding things that dont. They even sent me a new Windows Vista Ultimate 64 disk free after I lost mine in the move.

So what do you think of the PSUs though?? SHould I give it a bash or wait for a more expensive one??

The PSU actually sounds decent and alot of the nova forum members are repping it up well.

Surprising i guess for the price.

End of the i would always pay extra for the corsair etc step up as there products are outstanding

Hey there all you lovely people. Trust you all had a good weekend. Mine was particularly good. Good food and good company. Oh add to that the arrival of my new PSU and Mesh computers FINALLY refunding my £2200+++ and you can see why I am smiling.

So the new PSU. What a treat. I ofdered one of these http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/powersupplies/coolermaster/rs750-acaae3-uk.html coolermaster 750w PSU. It was delivered the next day even though I opted for Free "3-5day" delivery. It is a solid, suitably weighty PSU that fitted into the slot perfectly.

It has more than ample cable options including 4x PCI-e 6+2 power plugs (easily supporting even the newest, most demanding GFX cards) Plenty of power plugs available (12)for all theHDDs and other drives you could want. And when you see tha all this power comes for a tiny <£60 you can't help but deploy the good old credit card.

So whats it like?? Awesome is the word. It is currently running a Radeon HD 6970 from XFX and though my smaller PSU was tripping under load and not letting me OC my processor, this bad boy powers all this without a sound. I am very happy with the quality of this, the cheapest name brand 750w PSU i could find, but again I am thrilled by the customer service and support I received from Novatech. After my recent, catastrophic, runin with Mesh it is good to know that at least one company (Novatech) prides themselves in customer service.

Thanks allot all for your input and your time sorting this issue out. If anybody is looking for a new, quality, PSU, then go go Coolermaster GX 750 any day.

Enjoy my results

Oh 2more small points. I have also dealt with Aria.com and they did what they said that. They would do. That is always nice but in all my 5yr+ as a customer Novatech have always over achieved. That makes for a great customer relationship.

Secondly, if I could change one thing about this PSU it would be modular..

i still wouldhave gone for the corsair, i made the mistake of buying a "good psu" (from specs and reviews) lost most of my sig... currently trying to fund the parts back, bought a corsair TX650watt, and my my my, it is heavier than my case. i learnt the hard way, hoping you made the right choice in the first place.

good to see you made a nice choice on a decently branded PSU
