Have around £300 to spend on a graphics card.

Was looking at the new 'XFX 6870 XXX 2GB' cards out with the twin fan cooler.

Can get two of these in crossfire for that amount. Looking at getting a 2560x1440 display. Although I dont do a lot of gaming i would like to play the likes of BF3 / Skyrim as high a setting as possible.

Aware people go on about scaling and microstutter, etc but at that kind of price, surely looks an interesting proposal. How do you think they will perform at that setting. Not sure if a single card solution near that price would compete.

Havent been able to find a review yet of these new cards.

Note I have a 2500k@4.5 and 12GB of memory on Gigabyte Z68 motherboard.

No its the 6870 they have brought out with 2gb memory and twin fan cooler.

Can get hold of them for around £150

Ah, I re-read your post mate, sorry about that.

Two of those would give you better performance than a 6970, but I'm not sure how you would fair in terms of temps/noise.

May just get a single 7950. Fancy the black double cooler Saphire version.

Getting my new monitor next week the '27" Hazro HZ27WC', but have a single 5850 that I have had since they first come out.

Fancy the better quality monitor resolution as I do a lot of Autocad drawings and office stuff, but also like a bit of FPS now and again and my budget for a new card is pushed slightly.

Maybe wait another month and see if the prices drop at all.

I doubt the prices will drop in the next month. The prices could drop if Nvidia cards are cheaper and perform better than AMD cards, but I doubt they would be cheaper.

I'd wait to see how the Nvidia cards are plus the 7850 and 7870 are out next month as well so they should lower prices of current AMD 6xxx series cards. Would be cheaper for you to get a second 5850 though, adding another would give you about the same performance as a 7950 at stock.

Wait a month or two if possible as there will be lots of options for you, hopefully from both amd and nvidia.
