Since I got the GTX 280 I haven't been 100% happy with it and now that I've found out the capacitor squealing from it interferes with my sound card I have set up an RMA for a full refund. Let's hope OcUK sort this out for me easily. I have had no problems with them thus far but there is a first time for everything.

Anyway, seeing as I have plenty of cash in the bank atm I decided to go ahead and order the XFX 4870X2 that OcUK have just got in stock. Should be here on Monday if all goes well

I personaly have always found OCUK pretty good with RMA...knock on wood.

the 4870x2 is a great card curiouse why didn't you try the gtx 295...put of by the 280??

In a way yes the 280 has put me off a little. But seeing as the XFX card is so cheap on OcUK atm (£333) compared to the £440 on Scan I think it was a good buy.

I feel ya man... My X2 squealed like a ***** though too so that might not be the end of it.

That said I think I'm just keep RMA'ing 295s until Ebuyer send me one that doesn't squeal.

Now there's a funny thing. Whilst in-game I don't notice this, but if u do something like folding, I notice my rear speakers being influenced by the 280.

Be interested in knowing if this is "life-threatening" for the card.

Most squealing can be nailed down to quality of power supplied. However I think I am using very very borderline wattage on my system, so wouldn't openly complain.

Ok I have to admit I am lost as to what you guys mean by squealing!

Is the noise comming from the card,

or the fan on the card,

or through your speakers, but caused by interference from the card!

The squealing comes from capacitors in the card. It's a high pitched whine. This whine interferes with my sound card and causes the quality of voice and music to degrade.

Ah, mine's not quite like that.

The card, physically, doesn't whine (although I'd probably have to turn off the fan on it to hear anything properly that close).

But it is influencing the soundcard, probably via the bus or summit.

When your card squeels, you'll notice. You really will.

The interference with your speakers sounds more like harmless radiation. I have the same when I recieve an SMS - as soon as my speakers start making strange noises I'm reaching for my phone because I know I'll be recieving an SMS in a few seconds. I can now even hear the difference between SMS and a phone call :/

EDIT: after rereading the first post I realized (realised, erm..?) this is as offtopic as it gets. How's the RMA AntiHero?

It's not radiation monkey, I am positive it's the squealing capacitors interfering. Whatever sound frequency they are giving out must cause it somehow.

I got the card sent off this morning via RMSD. Cost me £9.50

Just have to make do with my 3870 until the 4870x2 comes on Monday

Small update. OcUK are in my opinion offer the best customer service in the UK. I sent off the card on Saturday, they received it today and have already tested and refunded my money. The testing process can take between 5-7 days depending on how many returns they have etc so I am quite astonished at this speedy rate.

Just waiting on the 4870x2 shipping now

They got to work, just couldn't get as many items delivered due to the snow. Probably more down to the delivery company than OcUK. Ah well, I'll just have to hope the snow buggers off soon so I can get my new card
