X370 MSI Carbon vs Asus Hero

Hi guys, apologies for the noob level of my questioning but i'm fairly new to some of this. Doing my best to self teach with articles but could do with some "facts" from those more experienced than myself.

Looking to build a R7 1700 build more or less from scratch. I've settled on cooler, case, ram etc etc and what I want to know is...

For the purposes of a "decent" overclock with a view to game + record/stream and video edit.

Am I better off investing in the Asus VI hero to push my OC and RAM as far as I can, or am I better off investing in the MSI carbon and saving myself 100 bucks which I can dump into GPU upgrading?

Tldr - Is the 100 bucks justified in terms of performance / stability that someone might gain?

Many thanks! Happy wednesday

The thing that is going to tell the boards apart now willo be BIOS and how hard each manufacturer works on perfecting theirs.

The Crosshair 6 is probably the best tweaker level board right now but it does needed a higher level of ability to get the best from it.

If youre just planning on smashing in a basic overclock and want to get some 3200mhz memory working ok then most board will cope with that now or hopefully not to far in the future with BIOS updates.

I'd say the carbon pro in your situation since you are going to put that into a GPU. I haven't seen many reviews of it though and having just looked at the BIOS releases from both, the MsI board has had 3 vs Asus 1. So if that's any indication, MSI is doing better. But really I am still not entirely sure which has better support. I'd still think the extra money into a GPU will do more for you with all that you plan to do over a higher quality/priced board.

Thanks for your replies guys... It's helped give me some clarity as I don't think getting every last mhz out of the OC is going to be my priority. I worry too much in life for pushing things to the limit :D

I guess my question is that "will the OC potential of hero = £100 of value if it were instead spent on GPU.

For which it sounds like GPU will be my better investment. Thanks again. <3

No. That much extra money can afaik get you from a 1070 to a 1080. So yeah the GPU is a smarter investment. You're welcome:)
Just try and find reviews for the Carbon. Like I said I haven't seen any, so it's worth a look or even waiting before buying.

I've got a Pro Carbon and would love to let you know what its like but until my Corsair bracket arrives, I can't really do anything. I will be running 3200 RAM so I can let you know what that's like as well, probably will do an OC but nothing outrageous.
