X FI XtremeMusic + my speakers = :(

Ok my digital speakers (+decoder, inspire 5.1 digital 5500) will not connect up happily with my soundcard because there is no optical connection on the card. As for line in, i dont have one which splits into three channels (only 1, meaning stereo and sub, with strange volume changes). I was told a Toslink to mini Toslink adapter would allow me to connect my optical to one of the channels (not sure which) and allow optimum playback (well surround at least!). Would this work? I'd call it a optical to 3.5mm jack connector.

I'm not sure. But if worst comes to worst buy the Auzentech X-Plosion sound card. I just ordered one because Frag told me to get that one and he alos has one and loves it. Me and Frag both have the Z-5500's.

oo oo, ive got my coaxial working! found an adapter! don't i need an optical cable for digital tho?

but rear noises are coming through the front channel as well as the front channel. the centre speaker is working fine now tho.

Nah you can use either coax or optical for Digital. It's most likely the adapter causeing the noises because it's not really a coax supported card. Not going to get the quality of coax with an adapter.

The card supports coax with a breakout box...very nice sound it is too

the problem is , i got coax working but one pro logic mode everything except the rear speakers work properly, the rear comes out the front!!! any ideas? im sure optical would fix this but still

Optical is the same thing as coax except it uses electrical signals. There shouldn't be a sound difference. You need a card that had a S/PDIF Out on the back. The sounds will most likely be messed up if you use an adapter. You could get a break out box like Kemp said.

erm this is weird - now when i play music on pro logic 2 mode the music does indeed come through the rear speakers...wtf

but on the channel test the words "rear left/right" still comes through the front two speakers
