Creative Decoder switchbox - is it possible to make one?

Hey guys, i have creative ddts-100 decoder connected to my gigaworks g500. Connected to the decoder is my main rig and ps3 via optical spdif. Sound is awesome from both devices but i'm having an issue with the pc side of things. While i'm able to get 5.1 sound, i'm unable to use most of the features on the creative sound software as they don't affect the sound, such as controlling the volume level of each individual speaker, bass redirection and frequency settings etc.

I searched the net and found this:

This would allow the speakers to be connected to my PC via the normal green, orange and black 3.5mm jacks while still having the decoder hooked up to the speakers to get 5.1 from ps3.

How would the internal of the switchbox above work, is there a way i can make one at home?

I'm not so sure that box in the picture does what you're thinking, it looks like it has one input then two outputs not two inputs and one output.

But the solution to your problem seems easier than getting another component, couldn't you just plug your pc into the DDTS via optical and leave the ps3 on optical aswell, from what I've seen in pics the DDTS has three optical inputs.

That is how i currently have the pc and ps3 set up but ever since connecting the pc via optical to the decoder, come of the settings on the creative software don't work as in nothing happens when i moved sliders to adjust bass frequency etc. Also the output of bass from the subwoofer has decreased, when i connect the speakers to the pc sound cards using the normal 3 coloured wires, everything perfectly fine. Its only a minor thing but it bugs ,me at times. The ps3 outputs sound perfectly including bass.

The switchbox would allow me to do this:

Might still have a go making one if i can

I see now, making one probably wouldn't be too hard but it would look pretty ghetto lol and if you plan on switching it you probably won't want something that looks bad in a place you could easily reach which means you'd have to see it. How much could that be anyways? If I had to guess $20 for Americans which means even less for you.

I found a site where a guy made this one and also provided a guide on how to make it

All you do is flick all 3 switch's to one side or the other to select the input source your require. In my case, the pc and the decoder.

Its pretty simple really, just a little soldering required. I may buy the components in a few days and give it a try

Good luck, I saw this when I was trying to figure out what you were trying to do, but I didn't think it was what you wanted at first because I was a little confused as to of what your intentions were. Looks pretty straightforward though.
