This is a stupid question but I went from my old LGA 1155 g620 to my new 2500k today and when I closed the socket it made a cracking noise ? and yes it was placed right in the socket and using it right now did some test's cinebench and looks ok got 5.40 on stock clocks !

thanks

These type of sockets always make a little noise when you clamp the CPU in. I'd say crackling before I'd say cracking though, lol. If everything is working normally, it's probably nothing to worry about.

static?

some hardware can still hold a small electrical currrent, even after they have been off for a while.

that is why i was taught to use an anti-static band when maintaining PCs

I say, keep cracking

hahaha yes more like crackling your right!

Lol, I shat myself the first CPU I had when closing the clamp on the socket, it was really hard to push the leaver down and I got the cracking sound as well, I thought the motherboard or CPU PCB had snapped. Turns out it's normal though.

HAHAHA i was o sht! then I got the look from my wife 0_0 !!!! she got the CPU for me and was like am not getting you a new one hahahaha!

thanks boyz !

As long as it successfully boots up and POST's then it's perfectly fine. With my first 1155 build the CPU also made a cracking sound, i was like 'shit i broke it!' but it turned out i didn't so i was mighty relieved. With my 2500K build it just slotted straight in with no noise at all, so you do get used to it after a couple of builds with the same socket.
