Glad you like it :)
I have plenty of soldering left to do.

Okay, just came to me. Hack a cheap personal recorder and put it in the system and hit a button and hear, "Do you want to play a game?"

Okay, I get goofy with my ideas, but I have to toss them out there.

You can actually change your Windows sound, so you could record your voice saying that, use software to make it sound robotic and then save it as an .mp3 and use it as the start-up sound! :D

Nice project btw!

Already have a mini-MP3 player that goes in the back and is playing the humming sound of the WOPR :)
Almost sounds like a engine idling, For use when i show it on LAN´s and stuff.
(dont need the computer on, i can activate LED´s and sound only)
When i have it at home i have some mp3´s cut out from the movie to use.

I´m planning to do some PHP work and run a local web server to show the console with all effects like in the movie.
First i was thinking about letting peple try it and use a IRC bot or something that can learn to respond to chatting, but that AI idea is thrown away, gets to far away from the WOPR theme :)

This MP3 player im using.
going to mount it flush to the back panel and remove the original panel, so only buttons is usable.
If i get room for it, i put in a 4" Fostex wide band speaker in a encolusure.

That is freakin' cool! I forget about these new fangled things called MP3. That will add a lot to presentation.

Edit and Adding: Looking at the fantastic detail of your work I should have known you have worked it all out. Nobody goes that far without going ALL the way and having it all planned out. :)

i have no idea what wopr is, but as a modding project it looks ammazzzinngggg :)
Subbed.

Thank you.
Take a look at the movie, you can probably find it here and there on the internet or your movie-store ;)

A little walk around the WOPR from the Movie i made to look at angles and stuff for my project.
(its unlisted and i made it to explain a LED problem where the clip ends, but its good to show the WOPR too.)

Getting there :)
Now i have 4 big parts of the case and time to glue all together to make it 2 parts, top and bottom :)
A early stage... had got some protests on showing it without atleast primer on, you guys can close your eyes now :P

I like to see it like this, just part of the process. Also this gives clues as to how it is assembled. I had thought that perhaps part was built with squared corners and rounded with a router, I see you used quarter round.

Thanks! my idea too to show how its made, not just the (hopefully) nice result :)
(And it could probably be done in 10 different ways, i needed to learn by doing as there is no blueprint)

When i started i didnt own a router, otherwise i probably had made the top in MDF or birch ply, i will run a router later on the corners to get perfect join of the quarter pieces, right now they are not rounded perfectly :)

If i make one again, i will go for 4mm acrylic all the way, this 2mm thin styrene have slowed me down alot.

Electronics is tested out too and all LED´s works fine, have some soldering left to do and figure out the led´s in the "tower".
This weekend i hope to have the case done so its ready for prepping with some bondo and primer.

I got all the tools I have since it seemed I always needed something else for every project or for work. :) One of the side benefits of your project is I bet you have learned a lot. Sometimes proper sequence is a big lesson in itself.

I was just in my computer room/cat room (more of a junk room now) and saw a piece of PVC house trim board I have left over from a window install years ago in the room. It is 1" x 5" and at the store I bought it they have it in sheets and larger pieces too, such as 4" x 4". It is expensive, but possibly a good material for such mods if it is available. My EX wife has an outdoor table that used plastic pieces to hold it together and they were all cracking and I used the PVC and brass threaded inserts to make new ones.

Just tossing that out there for people looking for different materials. I forget the brand I used, been years since I bought it, it is cheaper than Certainteed, but here is a Certainteed web site to show what I have...the smooth/smooth.

Time to start making the light controllers.
This is just a test for one of nine controllers for the LED panels.
White and blue to the left is output and its triggered on/off by the red with a knot on.
