Can you guys help me? Is there a way to download the windows updates and put them on to disc? Reason i ask is not for myself but my friend has dial up and it takes forever to download whereas can i download onto disc and then whack onto his comp?8) (Tounge twister) Would really appreciate the help thx:D

Im not sure about the small individual updates, as the computers state needs to be seen by the website but certainly the large ones this is a option, i did so with SP2.
 
There is a way to do it I think windows saves all the updates in your windows temp folder, maybe google it as it is frowned upon by windows because if you dont have a legit copy of windows xp sp2 wont let you install it neither will the live updates etc
 
Which sucks for me cos I gotta go and buy yet ANOTHER license now cos they won't let me change the hardware on an OEM copy :( barstewerds that they are!!

I have never had a problem, running several computers i cant be bothered to waste my connection and time downloading the updates on several computers, so i find the updates i need from the microsoft website, download them all into a file and then access and run them through my network on each of my computers. I dont see why burning them onto a disk should be a problem.

what about autopatcher? its an essential tool includes all the updates security fixes etc along with 100s of little add ons and tweaks

its updated every other month or so and i swear by it on a new install on any computer

i wouldnt dream of even having my network cards enabled with a fresh install on xp on my pc before running autopatcher and installing anti virus/spyware n firewall :)
 
They have removed the download links because the December release is imminent, so hang on just a bit and you should be able to get it from that link.

I'm still confused as hell mind!!! i want all these updates but the how the hell do i get em cos it's not working for me!!!
 
Cheers about the OC, hoping to score a nice big P4 3GHZ + and go higher. A friend has just hit 3.8GHZ air with his 3GHZ Northwood prime stable 24 hours

Anyway can you help me get these updates...which links do i click as there are loads for lots of random stuff and i just want one lot of it all
 
Under the xp+sp2 section all the current updates are listed individually so you can download only the ones you need.If you want a packaged patch,which normally has other stuff in as well,a guy called RYANVM makes update packs.

It may seem like overkill but if any of u are running server copies of windows this option is availble to you. (if u have whatever licenence you need for windowsserver.workingformorethanamonth.withoutpayinganything.edition)

Alternatively you can, as some people have been saying just grab the files as they download from their temp dir. Wang these on a disk server share whatever then make a .bat file (lol windows!) to install em...

Most have command line install options for 'silent install' and things like that.
