For those of you out there who do not like the fact that Windows 8 doesn't have the start button anymore, will be happy to hear that Microsoft have listened and are soon to release Windows 8.1 with.... that's right you guessed it a start button, as well as some other changes they say will improve Windows 8.
Now don't get too excited as Microsoft say that the start button is not the same as the start button of old but brings similar functionality to the O.S.
It will be available as an optional free download for current Windows 8 users but included in new disks. Release date is supposed to be sometime after June 26 2013.

sadly it only adds the button to the task bar, just opens that start screen we all just love!

MS should have made two OS's one with the desktop and one without, merging touch and work systems into one was a bad move.

I'm 1 1/2 months into Windows 8 and I can safely say that after the 1st couple of weeks getting used to it I now I could never go back to Windows 7 ...

Its like giving up smoking - 1 st couple of weeks are hell and then its all downhill from there :)

Can't remember where I saw it but apparently there will be a option on Windows 8.1 to either have the Start Button take you to the Start Screen, or have it bring up a list of installed applications.

I will try it but if it's still as annoying as I find Windows 8 I will go back to Windows 7 and stick with it.

After using Windows 8 since release I find the start screen faster than using a start menu.

I have removed most of the Metro apps, apart from a few I do use and pined all my shortcuts to it. All I have to do is press the Windows key which takes me to the start screen, it then takes me a split second to click the shortcut I want and then i'm strait back to the desktop with my program, game or what ever loading.

For everything else I use Windows button + X which brings up a menu which gives you options for almost everything else you could need.

agreed not having the start button hasn't been a major issue for me either its so easy to navigate around its ridiculous.

I happen to like 8 just the way it is as I've been using it so long now it's easy and natural to get around, but I have a sneaking suspicion that at some stage, possibly even with service pack 1 we will have no choice but to have 8.1

I use StartIsBack. By far the nicest and best one iv'e tried. :)

I have also seen something that claims to remove the metro stuff, but i haven't tried that.

Would be great if Microsoft or any other company came out with a gaming operating system, All non essential things taken, All under the hood stuff really optimized kernel etc...

One can dream ^_^

I feel like people have made a big deal out of nothing with this, it all still works.
I use it fine.

Custom themes dont work though, Well a few made for windows 8 do but they are plain and ugly at the same time and I am not giving up this -
