Lo guys,

I had one of these lying around...

...a Keycorp K57, they can be had for about £25 on ebays. So I stripped it down and modded it into my downloading PC...

I just need to get some of that black trimming stuff to neaten up the edges on the hole I've cut. I might try my hand at making some custom screens for monitoring stuff with Samurize.

Truly Excellent piece of work there Zax mate - does that mean you have dual display on that unit (the monitor within and on the oustide)?

How did ya hook it all up (pics inside). What did ya need to do with the screen to make it fit?

Congrats on a cracking piece of work mate :)

:D thats magic! Nice :) What kinda stuff do you use it for? I thought about getting a small touchscreen to have at the corner of my desk, but never got around to it. Bet the price has come down since I thought of it as well :)

Thanks guys. I have'nt started using it yet, but I'm sure I'll think of something. Heres a pic of the inside gubbins...

This is a very easy mod if you use the Keycorp K57 because this screen has it's own PCI card which powers it. I had looked at the Psone LCD screen mod but that takes a lot of faffing around adjusting it in powerstrip.

I carefully striped the K57 out of it's case (just a case of undoing screws), the bits you need are the bits you can see and mounted it into a hole I carefully measured and cut into the side panel. I've got an existing 9800 Pro in the system, the only adjustment I had to make was in the bios, making it boot using the PCI GFX card first. I tested the system before hacking the case with both GFX cards installed. There didn't seem to be any conflicts, ran some benchies too! To activate the screen I just activated it in windows as an extended desktop. The hardest part was finding the drivers for the screen!

I have been thinking about a machine that I can leave on 24/7 instead of the power-house for similar reasons to yours right there Zax mate.

But was swaying toward a SFF (like a shuttle) unit - I might use the old P160 case I have here and use that with one of these installed instead - thats one cool mod, not sure I can give it the same justice you have but it's worth a shot.

Cheers guys, heres another pic (wifes watching keeping up appearances at the mo before I get slated :D)...

This is a really easy mod, even if you dont cut a neat hole you can always neaten it up using trimming. Thats right Scorchio mate, its e-mule running there. If I need to I can tuck this PC away in some corner and use just the K57 screen.

A truley nice mod there zax m8! Wish i had that kind of inspiration to do things like this! Nice koolance ;) How are the temps keeping? Again nice mod!

Thanks mate, the Koolance is what can I say, kool, it's enabled me to have a 600Mhz stable overclock on the CPU. It must be strange seeing your ex kit in a new home, it was a super buy in fantastic condition, thanks again.

It's true Mav, it was the wife watching keeping up appearances, you don't think I'd risk myself for slatting that easy do you?

... got enough spare cable at the bottom of the case? lol.

Cheers Master_G, I coudn't be bothered to shorten the cable as it would have meant alot of resoldering the pins in the plug. Besides once the side panel is on you can't see it :D
