As the title say's, I'm just wondering how many of you drop cpu speeds when the weather is hot then put them back up as the summer ends ??

I just leave my OC as it is, last year when I had my NH-D14 temps rose by 5*c but stayed under 60, usually about 55*c. I can't OC at the mo because I only have n H61 board but now i'm watercooled I wouldn't worry about higher temps, so far they have only increased by around 3*c on stock clocks with the warm weather.

If I was running an OC and temps got to high, I would knock the volts down a bit though.

Same here, over the past few days, the British weather has been hot but the NH-D14 does not break a sweat whatsoever, been hitting 67c-69c most of the time, not above that

My previous cooler, the prolimatech megashadow was hitting 91c even before the hot weather and gave me blue screen and PC shutdowns. Noctua NH-D14 is what i should have had from day 1, best air i have to say, it will do just fine during summer, no worries here

I don't drop it, I just turn my AC down hah. Actually my CPU stays cooler most of the time in summer then winter because my room is kept cooler.

Mine dont change at any point usualy unless im having a play or like currently when i flash my bios and forget to save the profile and just dont feel like setting it up again yet

99% of the time my ambient is warmer in the winter anyway cause of all the snakes in the room (8 currently and soon to be probably 25-30 or so more as babys are due.), even with the heat bulbs/heat mats in it can get fairly cold in the tanks even right next to the basking spots when the heating is off, and having a fairly temperamental heating system in the house id rather it be warmer than it needs to be incase the boiler skits out so i have time to sort it before it gets to cold.

I design my cooling to run on very low speed fans and run then off the CPU fan header, If the CPU raises in heat it raises the fanspeed, besides it's old enough to look after itself.

In the summer I have to underclock some days. I live in Arizona and it is not uncommon for the whether to hit 120f+. I can blast my AC but (and its happened in the passed) I got a $800 AC bill at the end of the month. remember, temps are usually measure pretty high up, in reality were you stand is MUCH hotter than what the whether channel says.

in arkansas, we dont have the brutal long hot days like arizona, but it gets a might toasty.

on the 24/7 (no OC) machine i ramp the fans up 5-10%

on the main user PC no worries with the d14

and the plaything i'm working on that now. so far nutin' over 65°c but a little more each

day, inch-by-inch.

Thanks for the replies,,, getting temps of around 30c in the daytime at the moment and have noticed my CPU Temps are around 49c idle compared to 39c on the h100 when outside temps are around 18c ...

Yup, got the NH-D14 installed in my rig also and temps are not going over 65 - 68 C with the hot weather. Similar temps to when I had the CM Hyper 212+ in the cold weather and because I'm using as5 thermal paste, the temps should drop some more after the "break in" period. This is my first self-built rig + O.C and I don't see any reason to drop the clocks.

it gets quite warm in my house ( in the uk) so i have a choice either turn the fans up or let it run hot, or downclock. I dont like having noisy fans as it kind of defeats the purpose, I hate downclocking as that too defeats ther purpose. I let the temps rise ( not by a lot ) but because i have a loop in. When they rise even a little i get uspet, so i spit my dummy out even though my temps are still acceptable lol. Weird int it

With my previous rig (Q8200 @3Ghz, Prolimatech Mega Shadow Push/Pull) I didn't have to turn the OC down at all, and I don't expect to do so with my future rig either.. (3770k @ ??, Phanteks TC14PE)

I never go to the edge of my chips abilities with my 24/7 OC's though. If I did I would probably have to turn it down, cuz I've got a massive window (basically, 1 wall of my room consists mostly of glass ;p) and during summer the sun is aimed right at it.. needless to say I keep a can of deodorant close lol
