Which set up... OI! You! Look!

The GT is good but not cutting it at high res.

I have a CrossFire mobo.

Edit: I can't seem to add/edit the poll. I'm sacking off the CF, order cancelled. I need a single card solution. The GT isn't cutting it but the reviews I see indicate it should. I'm thinking about getting an ultra to tide me over until the 9800 but now the new GTS is coming and if it is like the GT it should offer gtx/ultra performance for cheap...

Do you think there is something wrong with my rig? Why can't I run things smoothly? I see alot of vista benchmarks of late that look x10's better than xp, I'm thinking of buying vista...

I'd wait til after xmas myself mate....

Really depends on your need though...just how much to you NEED a new setup...

I'm going for a 8800gt (inc crysis) EVGA then the 9800s should be out before end of march-ish so i can stepup to them within 3 months of purchase of my 8800gt.

Good idea?

I think so

Well after much deliberation, it seems selling the gt and buying 2 3870's would only require £130... I'm really thinking about doing it as it will perform better than the GT...

Just need to read lots of reviews...

lol - for what? Xmas?

Seriously though, if I do this I can sell the 3870's for a small loss as they will still be pretty new when I'm done with them...

No one is really making a strong case against this idea!

Is there a link to a list of games that support CF?

Hmmmm... I've read ALOT of reviews on these cards now. I thought CF performance was significantly higher than a single GT, however it seems the gains aren't that impressive. Plus the GT sli pwns the CF setup but I cba to change to nvidia chipset.

I think I'll re-read some reviews... OK it have. It isn't worth it.

Thanks guys and in about 4 hours time when I'm itching to buy them again will you all slap me to ensure I don't? Cheers :)

Drivers....? CF Drivers suck..

Reviewers seemed to get CF working... Seen plenty of different games with CF enabled...

Maybe this is just something I need to do, buy then, try it, go ah man this sucks, let everyone say I told you so and lesson learn't.

Bump I guess...

Although the poll seems conclusive with 72% saying keep what you have I simply can't do that.

My rig is infuriating me. Here are the requirements as I see them - games must be played at my native res of 1920x1600 with everything maxed - like butter. I'm on XP but looking at getting vista soon as I want some dx10 action.

Crysis - even in dx9 not good enough perf, I'm willing to accept that this won't change anytime soon so...

CoD4 - still fun, runs pretty well, everything on max but sometimes it's not butter - not good.

UT3 - full game, just like to say SP is a bag of white viscose body fluid. Anyway, can't run smoothly with everything maxed.

Gears - is this a terrible port? Runs awful.

World in conflict - runs ok at full res but a little jerky

hl2 ep2 has an old engine so i'm ok there and the rest of the 'older' titles seem to run fine, but could be better...

You can get GTX's on the bay for £250, ultras for £300. Anybody care to throw in an opinion about that as a solution? I'm still thinking 38's in cf but I'm having a hard time finding any at RRP (I will not give in to price gouging).

BUMP.

Someone, anyone, look at the post above, see the OP too... I need to sort out my set up, things aren't right. Latest drivers, blah blah blah. Even defraged HDD's...

Edit: Also, the GT is supposed to be as good as the GTX even at my res here so why can't I play these titles smoothly?

I really think your expecting to much form the hardware.

As new games come out hardware gets hammered. New hardware emerges as an answer and overtakes it, its a never ending cycle thats been going on for at least 10 years.

1920x1200 is a massive rez, and it you won't be able to run games which came out yesterday with everything turned up max on hardware that is basically a year old(ish). You will be able to on with the next generation. But not this one.

Its the way the industry works. Just turn off some of the less noticeable settings or the rez down and be patient.
