Hi guys so i finally got my compo cheque and my boiler breaks down on me so there goes my dream pc go figure , So what i am asking is what do you guys think will be best a intel 2500k with a gtx 560ti or a Amd phenom 2 955 with a gtx 570 as scan has got some cheap at moment or will my intel core 2 duo e8400 still cut it with a fast card any advice or people with similar setups would be great thanks guys[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]

AMD Phenom II 955 with a GTX 570! For gaming graphix are more important. The 955 will handle any game out there. The core2duo has no chance with todays games, and a lot of game companies start to produce 4 core games, so...

First of whats you budget? and do you need new HDD's/ Case ect. also is it just for gaming or video/photo editing as well?

Personally i would go with the i5 2500k and a 560Ti. Thats what i went with and im loving it as it performs really well with everything i throw at it. Not to mention the overclocks you can get from them.

For games and for real-time previewing while 3D modelling, the Phenom II X4 955 with GTX 570 is obviously the better choice but for video editing and video encoding it depends on whether or not the software you will be using supports CUDA acceleration. If it does not, the i5 2500K with GTX 560 Ti is slightly better. Besides, CUDA is supported by alot of the good software anyway - so TBH go for the Phenom II X4 955 and GTX 570.

using old case hard drive power supply etc and it will be just for gaming and web so it looks like the 955 and a gtx570

Cheers guys

Definitely the i5 2500k + 560ti (hope you haven't bought the 955 + 570 yet), also make sure your psu is up for the job i.e. good quality, branded (not some random brand) and has enough juice to power the system.

Explain why at least ? Intel fanboy..

I like how you're calling me an intel fanboy, that's nice and mature. Anyway, anyone who is not a fanboy knows the i5 2500k is the better cpu, it performs better, can be overclocked higher, possibly runs cooler and is better for games with the new integrated graphics not to mention i5 2500k is a newer cpu and the amd phenom ii cpus are going to be phased out as soon as bulldozer comes out.

The 570 is better than the 560ti however the i5 2500k + 560ti, holds as a better combo overall.

I never said the phenom is a better CPU, but we're speaking about gaming here... Its better to have better GPU than a better CPU for gaming so..yeah.

No, not really a cpu can bottleneck a gpu, making the gpu less effective. Its better to get a good cpu with a little less powerful gpu rather than a normal cpu and a bit more powerful gpu. Plus getting a better cpu will be a better investment than getting a slightly more powerful gpu.

What i'm trying to get at is, the difference between the 560ti and the 570 is not that great especially when considering the 560ti's overlclocking abilities, where as the difference between the 995 and the i5-2500k is pretty big whether than be gaming or normal cpu tasks and its better for the whole computer if the cpu is better.

Theres no chance the phenom will bottleneck the 570, even 2x570 in sli wont be bottlenecked by the phenom, keep in mind that it's not a weak CPU either...

yeah i have i silverpower 650w psu with 64amps on the 12volt line it is very solid as for bottle necking i would not of thought a 955 would bottleneck a gtx570 either especially as i will be overclocking it to 3.8 or 4ghz i know how good the sandy bridge is thats what i was gonna get with a 580 or sli 560 but it just gonna cost me to much money that i aint got now i have had to buy a new boiler so do you both think the 955 will be solid enough and any how its gonna be better than my current setup which is all gravy

thanks again guys

It will be 100% better then your current set up. The 955 is really solid, at 4Ghz nothing can beat it for that price. Even my Athlon II X4 hasnt got ANY problems with ANY game out there

Yeah the 955 is by no means a bad cpu, however the i5-2500k is a better processor. I'm just giving my input that I would go for the i5-2500k + 560ti. But the 955 + 570 is also a good combination, so it's just up to you to make a decision.

amd and 570 as no game will will be bottle necked cause of it and also games are more gpu intensive and for OC the 560 if you OC the 570 its still gonna be better i have a spare pc with a amd phenom 8400 x3 and a had a hd 5870 in it for a bit had the same fps nearly bar a few as a 1090T so it shows cpu does not affect game much if you have a good one obviously if you got a athlon 3200 you got problems lol.

Finally someone who understands me..

955 with 570 defo!

The 570 beats the 560 TI and 955 will not hold it back in any way shape or form so you'll have a better gaming experience as you'll be able to top out more games.

Not sure if this has already been covered as I just skipped to the end of the thread to get my 2 cents in but if you want to be able to add a second 570 later then you'll need a 990X board as the 8XX mobo's don't support SLI. Also, a mid range 990X board will run two cards at x16/x16 where a mid range P67/Z68 board will only be running them at x8/x8. Doesn't really make a difference over one monitor however but still, there you go. Sorry if you already knew all that but there's never any harm in checking is there?
