Which 1500w PSU?

Hi all, I am on the lookout for a 1500w PSU. There are only a few choices out there (I would provide links but my rig is down to a blown PSU, and I'm reduced to my phone!)

1, Thermaltake
2, Enermax
3, Silverstone

These are the ones that I can find that will be shipped immediately - pretty desperate to get my rig running again!!

Which one out of these three would you recommend?

Brian :)

Does it have to be 1.5kW? That's a lot!

The Corsair 1200W would be a good choice if you lowered your requirements a bit. What are you powering?!

What hardware is it powering?

Out of the list - Silverstone or Enermax. Never Thermaltacky.
Probably choose Silverstone over Enermax as the cable braid looks a little better, but it's up to you.

Well I have done the PSU wattage thingy and it came out as 1320 ish W.
6 HDDs
2gtx 680s
1gtx580
oc ed cpu
liquid cooled
etc etc...

I hate this phone!!! Its taken 5 attempts to reply!!

Thanks for the quick advice guys :)

Hopefully Enermax have improved over the ages. Years ago I had an Enermax psu, I went on holiday for two weeks so everything was switched off at the wall. When I got back and turned it on, FLASH/BANG! The capacitors had dried out creating a dead short, which then let the magic smoke out.

I'm guessing for have the 580 for PhysX? If so, lose it - you'd be better off leaving it to your CPU.

What CPU exactly is it?

Even with that system, you'd be fine on a Corsair AX1200. Lose the 580, and you'd get away with an AX850 easily

yeah thats no way enough for the need of a 1500W
if you want over a KW go for a 1200 but your just paying for power your not gonna use

the 580 is running 2 extra monitors

For comparison sake, with my 1.2kW psu,

5 HDD's & 1 SSD
2gtx 670s
- no third gpu (say, 180W for your 580?)
oc'd 2600k
2 optical drives (BDR & DVDR)
3 180 fans
pump, fan & stuff etc

Probably not scratching 1000w full load (which reminds me to measure it some time!). That does mean I'm not certain of the true load, but I have no power issues at all.

What I was tryinv to say was that I have a load of usb powered stuff too... And how come the PSU calc thingy says 1320 + w? if 1200 should be enough?

you can`t be serious...that calc thingy is trash. no no...1200W is more then enough. an i7+2 680 for ex uses 500-550W in load.get the Seasonic 1000W platinum.

I hate replying on this phone! For further info my last PSU just went when I switched on in the morning. there was no load apart from powering up. it was a 1kw unnamed jobbie which had served well until the pair of 680's went in. I also had a second 450w psu running just the 580.
