What Thermal Compound do you use?

What do you use and why?

if you have done any comparisons post them up here!

It will help people choose the compound best for them!

IC Diamond 7/24 carat - Improved temps 3c on load over noctua NH-1 compund but it is impossible to get off and i think it has fused with my CPU, the writing on it is near impossible to read even after aggresive cleaning!!!!!

Artic MX4 and Noctua NH-1.

Both are very good and have no problems at all with temperature.

Pobya HE grease.

It looks like OEM Noctua NT-H1 to me, it's really easy to apply and clean as well. From reading up on it all the results I have seen puts it just under Indigo Extreme.

From the reviews I have read it's said to be one of the best thermal pastes around at the moment and comes just under all the liquid metal stuff.

Arctic Cooling MX-4. Cost me £3 and it's great, lasts a ridiculous amount of time and is non conductive too

mx-2 . it's suitable for northbridge and gpu coolers cause it's non-conductive

not the best for benchers, but if you build a rig that is not going to be upgraded for a year, or so, then this is the best your can get (IMHO)

I agree but i heard alot of this on forums, whats your opininon on this? and how do you apply it?

I've noticed that the stuff is everywhere on here, and thought I would just point out something that I myself also experienced.

There is a well-documented issue with IC Diamond sometimes scratching, polishing, and even rarer, it can cause chemical abrasion to the IHS.

I personally got some micro scratches on both my 480 waterblocks and the CPU 360, noticeable because of the nickel plating. However, these do not show up on camera, so I cannot post that here. However, I will refer you to a few other threads on the matter.

currently as5 but i am gonna get some more mx4 because i was getting much better temps with the mx4 that was pre applied to my freezer 13 pro i think as5 is defo had its day imho

MX4 here, one of best in my opinion and its easy to change which helps on bench configs

it is not the TIM that scratches the chip and sink, but the person removing it.

i have a strong grip and find ICD24 not a problem to squeeze from the syringe. but, if ppl have trouble, simple place the TIM in a warm place (radiator, etc) for a few minutes to soften it up.

as for removing it... best to disassemble the chip and heatsink directly after use, while they are still warm

... then use proper TIM remover (liquid) OR use a hairdryer and tissues (tissues for your nose, NOT toilet paper or kitchen towel)

DON'T SCRAPE IT OFF

I have used Arctic Silver 5 / Noctua H1 / Coolermaster and Coolerlabs Liquid Metal (all give me approx' the same temps).

I am going to try some MX4 over the weekend just to see what it gives (gets lots of praise).

just a thought when people compare different tim do you always apply in the same why or sometimes different obviously sometimes we are all in a rush to get it all back together and might apply it a different way and not get the results we was expecting also what is your preferred way to apply tim

the main reason i asked is i applied a pea size of as5 in the middle and spread it out and am getting awful temps i reseated twice and still no luck so if i try the line method from left to right do you think i will get a lot better temps

Interesting thread. I've used Arctic Silver 5 for a while and not had a reason to switch aside from forgetting where I left the tube! I recently had to rush out and grab some thermal paste from the shop on the corner of the street and all they had was Thermaltake TG-2, which I didn't really know anything about previously. However it seemed to be alright and would be OK for most, non-scientifically I'd say around 4º lower than stock on the particular machine but I wasn't exactly pushing the CPU to the max,
