Used all sort's over the years.

Mainly used Artic Silver 5 for everything regardless of what it was.

Then changed to something else think it was Artic Cooling MX-2 which wasn't to bad.

Changed from that to Artic Cooling MX-3, and now the MX-4 stuff.

Tried using Artic Silver 5 on my old I7 920 and my old I5 2500K but the pc wouldn't boot with that stuff being used, removed the waterblock and applied MX-3 and hey presto the pc booted no probs.

Have been looking for something else to try and drop the temps down as much as possible, but I think I am gonna stick with the MX-4 as that knocked 8c off my temp's the other week, and then just go to a Phobya 1080 Rad.

Arctic Cooling MX-4, to apply i use the slanted divide / percentage symbol [ % ] line from corner to corner and dots each side.

all time fave tim was ocz freeze extreme but you cant get it anymore, it gave great temps was easy to clean and apply and you could freeze it too (was designed for their own phase cooler iirc).

as said icd is a great tim giving temps that are as good as any but it is a pain to get right, first time i used it (smaller tube) i near dislocated my thumb trying to squeeze it out before i started to pre heat it in the tube, once you do that its a doddle as you get it out the tube and it squashes nice too. i can confirm it can react, i once found what was like a small stone between my sink and ihs when i was changing cpu and it did leave a pit mark on my lapped ihs but tbh idk if i would of noticed it had the cpu not been lapped. i will also agree its a pita to clean off and the only way i have found to remove it all is 1500 grit.

i also use arctic cermaquie as its what everybody says is best for sub zero so i have a tube next to my ss

as dug said its horses for courses, if you want to know its going to be fine for a long time and it wont be removed its hard to say anything is better than icd but if you swap stuff out all the time i would go for an easier to clean one like nt1 mx3 tx3 chill factor 3 and such as tbh they are all around the same if you get a good application.

I used Arctic Silver 5, but when I moved my hardware into my 400r case, I also switched out the cpu cooler and put some NT-H1 on there instead. Works a charm.

I purchased 2 cheap syringes of compound on ebay and id like to know what people on here think.

Is it a really bad idea using these super cheap compounds and will it make a huge

amount of difference when overclocking??

Heres a link to the product, Im sorry if im not allowed to post links, if so could an admin please remove this

for the record im using a tube of Noctua NT-H1 which came free with my NH-D14 and im very happy with it

I have used AS5 99.9% and MX-4 and never noticed a difference in temps. Just ordered some Arctic Silver Ceramique. What is the thermal paste that comes with the D14 like? Ordered myself a D14 last night to replace my H60. Going to retire my H60 to my Xeon X3220 for folding on.

First used some Cooler Master paste that came with my Hyper N520, then some Arctic Silver 5, and now the Noctua NH-1 that came with my NH-D14. Noctua is hands down the best.

actually i tried a different methods ( DOT METHOD is the best ) and different thermal compound ,

now i'am happy with the ARCTIC MX-4 it's way better than the standard Scythe thermal.

here is my temps , i don't have AC and it's summer ;)
